well basically i want to try to hook up my comp to my tv. my tv has HDMI and my vid card is a 7800gtx. so i went out and got a DVI - HDMI cable and hooked up comp to my tv. the bad part is the resolution is horrible. is there any way i can download drivers for my comp so i can use my tv? oh yeah, i'm using a sony lcd projection 60 in tv.

if your tv supports 720P (1280x720 res @ 60 herts), set ur comp res as that and you should be good..

yeah i set it up and it still looks weird. maybe because the tv is a widescreen?

that is a widescreen res, your graphics card doesn't care what size it outputs for a desktop res.....

If you have a 60" sony.....do you have the SXRD? if you do you can to 1920x1080....

Also you might have the wrong DVI cable, try using a VGA cable if you have one to test at lower res settings.

the problem i am having is the screen is bigger than the tv so i am missing like part of the desktop all around. so if i maximize a window, i lose the title and tool bar. the tast bar on bottom i cannot see. right and left side of the screen same thing. i tried all the res setting from 320 x 200 - 1920 x 1080. always have something missing. when i play SC (starcraft) its ok, except i can't see how much money i have and if i play UMS, i can't see the top left where they show stats.

RPTVs (rear projection TVs) overscan all images. You won't be able to fit your entire desktop on the screen without modification to the television itself (maybe there is software out there that can do this?)

I had to move the mirror on my Toshiba 52HM95 forward a little so I could see most of my toolbars, but as it is it cannot be moved very easily and I'll have to reverse the modification later on.

Basically youre SOL

I have it connected via HDMI and the screen looks kinda weird because the DLP on this tv actually orients all the mirrors on the chip at a 45 degree angle to prevent aliasing, so you cant really get the "computer screen sharpness", but it still looks ok.

You can see the overscan on the screen, I had to double the size of the toolbar to see what was down there and at the left and top you can see the recycle bin and other icons are cut off.

Direct view TVs are much better for hooking up to your PC.

select a res smaller then 1920x1080, like 1800x1000 or soemthing... there should be an option in ur drivers.. don't know about nvidia, i know ATIs have them
