Hooking up Amp's

Hi.

I've been wondering for a LONG time now. Do they make home amplifiers for sub woofers that will allow you to connect a sound card to the amp? I want to use a car audio sub on my computer cause I have no bass like that, I have Mids and Highs, but no Lows. So, i'm looking into this.

Any suggestions or pushes in the right direction?

The right direction is to NOT use a car audio amp in the house.

it can be done however, with a dc to ac power converter from parts express, but you will need a pretty expensive one. One that can handle a 1000 watt car amp will cost about as much as a parts express amp for your sub so I don't think they are necessary. You need a regulated power supply capable of supplying hundreds if not thousands of watts, and one that size would cost you more than just buying a new amplifier made for a home system. I mean for a decent car stereo amp running at say 1000 watss, you will have one hell of an amp draw. At bare minimum we are talking 20 amps. The device that will do this is:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=120-558
but more accurately since you need some overhead.

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=120-556

so you might as well get something like this
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-750
or
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-794

as it would cost about the same.

Yes! That Bash amp is the exact type of thing I was looking for.

I never wanted to use a car amp cause I know I would have to buy a whole bunch of crap in order to use it, its to much of a hassle.

But seriously though, that Bash amplifier is the exact type of product I am looking for. Do you by any chance know of any other brands that I can take a peak at that makes products like that?

i have run a car amp just fine of a pos computer psu.. but i wouldn't reccomend it, especially long term..

to answer your question.. look for plate sub amps.. partsexpress has a ton.. and if you google them you will get a bunch of other sites.. adireaudio has quite a few too.. i just looked though and they are real expensive..

subwoofer plate amp.. that's what you want..

edit:
http://www.apexjr.com/ there's 1 more site i know of that has them..

Hahahaha. That looks sooo ghetto man, lol. I think I am gonna go for one of those BASH digital amplifiers, they look incredibly promising.
