Hi,I was woundering how I would hook a xbox360 up to my computer and/or screen for HD resolution. I have a ati 9800 pro video card with the s-video outback and a viewsonic p95f+ monitor. What would I need to do?
Thanks

That monitor has only a standard VGA input so you would want one of these:

They sell for $40. If you also want sound then you will either need speakers that take RCA input, or an RCA to mini-jack adapter + headphones (this is what I use with my PC monitor).

The downside to this is the cable swapping needed to switch from PC to 360 if this is your standard PC monitor as well. If that is going to be your situation I would suggest an AV switch like this (not necessarily this one though, since I have done no actual research on this):

Buy a VGA output adapter

Pelican makes one for $20. The only problem is that if you use optical output it only has RCA plugs.

I have had one for quite sometime but never used it. Kinda ticked me off when i realized I bought one without Optical output on it. Gears of War looks fantastic on a high quality monitor!

Not sure if anyone makes a VGA adapter with a Optical output???????

Just buy Microsofts VGA cables for the XBOX 360. It comes with everything you need for video and sound.

+1 for we need a sticky about this topic.

It doesn't come with everything you need for sound unless your monitor or speakers have RCA inputs.... As I mentioned earlier when I told the OP the same thing.

Microsoft's VGA cables come with a RCA to minijack converter and a female to female vga adapter. It also has optical output. So it should be everything you need.

I didn't know it came with those adapters. That is cool. With those you could possibly even use your line-in on your PC to allow the PC to play the audio for you, which might avoid a lot of trouble.

However, I don't see how that converter works with headphones. Almost all headphones I have seen are male and that converter also appears to be male. Male to male doesn't work so well. So I would think for headphones you would still need a Female to Female mini-jack converter (which is what I actually use with a somewhat similar setup).

Yeah, a female-female adapter would work, or

go to Radioshack, they have a female RCA to female mini jack adapter.

You can also do what you said before and use the line in on the sound card to get audio to the headphones. Of course it would require the PC to be on though.

I don't know if this is the correct place to ask, but I have an old Xbox, Any chance this cable will work in it too? Been trying to find something like this for a while now, but everything is just 360 :(

Actually, the original first run of the VGA cables came with those 2 adapters, then they stopped bundling them which sucks. My friend bought one at launch and got the 2 adapters. I got my 360 in Feb 06 and didn't get the adapters. I called microsoft and the guy said they don't come with any adapters. I sent him pics of the cable that my friend bought along with the contents and he said none of his documentation showed it coming with the adapters. Then after awhile, it started coming up on forums where some people got the adapters, and some people didn't. You won't be able to find one that has the adapters included unless it's really old stock.

Just to mention, I've been using that KVM for a few years now and I think it's excellent. Works well, and cheap!
