ok maybe i wasnt too clear but this is what i want...
i want some kind of audio system with speakers where i can hook it up to my computer and my dvd player as well. and this system has to be fairly cheap like under 270 so i can buy a new sound card as well. with a home theater in a box solution be good?

i know the expensive recievers can support up to like 9 or so devices and switch between them so they can all use the same speakers. not at the same time though of course. so im wondering do these cheap home theater in a box these cheap home theatre in a box solution contain a reciever that can be hooked up to at least 2 devices?

For $300, get a Klipsch Promedia 5.1 set.

If you want a decent HT-style surround computer rig You'll likely need to spend more.

, go for a b-stock reciever.

First join ClubOnkyo for the $10 discount

Then go to shoponkyo.com.

You want the refurb TX-SR501.

$185 - $10 (bonus points) + shipping = <$200

https://www.shoponkyo.com/catalog_detail.cfm?id=TX-SR501&type=3&class=Receiver&p=i&ext_war=1

then get a set of b-stock Rocket Tykes from Av123.com for $299.

My inclination would be to get by with a stereo pair for now, then you can upgrade later.

Also, try to check Craigslist for a decent used receiver. Look for a model that has multichannel analog inputs.
