Hey guys, so I got a few questions here and want to ask the knowledgeable people for some advice. I'm trying to perfect my home network so that I can get the fastest, speeds, bandwith etc possible from what I got (or will get pending this post)

I currently have Xfinity (Comcast) package with 300mb/s download and 25mb/s upload. I am currently renting the modem from comcast : XFINITY - ARRIS Touchstone DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and Wireless Router with Telephony Adapter (TG1682G)

I'm currently paying $10/month for rent on this mode.

My first question is: Is this modem decent? Or should I be looking into getting my own? I ask because I have had comcast replace my modem quite a few times over the years, and I'm not sure how dependable this or their modems are, and especially the bandwith/speeds provided, etc.. (FYI - I currently have this modem in BRIDGE mode, with wifi, etc disabled) connected to my router which I'll explain below.

I was looking at a Arris Surfboard SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem.. but is it worth going that route? Or is the modem I'm renting from comcast sufficient and I should just keep it etc?

Second question: Coming from the rented cable modem (Port 1) I have it connected into a Netgear N750 Dual Band 4-Port Wifi Gigabit Router. (WNDR4300) This router has 2 wifi tables broadcasted (with the same name) at 2.5ghz/5ghz, has 1 PC connected, 1 smart TV, and then 1 Ethernet cable to my secondary router (upstairs)

The router upstairs is a Netgear N600 Dual Band Gigabit Wireless Router (WNDR3700v5) which is configured as WAP, and has 2 laptops wired, 1 gaming pc wired, 1 voip phone, and whatever's connected to the wifi at different times (which is broken down into two channels 2.4ghz and 5ghz at different names)

Just want to make sure this is the proper way to configure all of this and I'm not having any conflicting issues or anything, and want to get an idea on the modem situation as well.

Please let me know...

Thanks!

If you're fine paying the rental fee on the modem, then keep at it. The SB6190 would work just fine as well, some might say otherwise. As for your upstairs, there are some other options available, but they can be costly. If things are running fine the way they are, and you are satisfied, then I would keep doing what you're doing. If you're not experienced enough to start messing with it, then I wouldn't advise it because you can end up in a situation where you have jack squat upstairs, or other problems.

Your setup looks solid. Most decent cable modems are 100$ so 10 months you are saving money. Your modem is a moto under a different name. The only wild card is your voip modem for phone.

Thanks guys.

Its just a voip work phone connected via ethernet to the router so that i can use it for work.

Appreciate all the help! Might invest in a modem at one point to save money, not sure if picking up the SB6190 3.0 would be future proof? I read somewhere about 3.1 coming soon?

I wouldn't worry yourself over modems, to be honest.

Get the best and cheapest 16x4 modem your isp supports. After a year it's 10$ in savings. I despise renting any equipment from ips if I can help it.
