Hi all,
I have a little dilemma
Currently i have my desktop PC, which is showing its age and playing games is somewhat frustrating
E8500, 8GB, 320GB Sata, 4870 1GB, Windows 7 X64
My single ESXI 5 machine is as follows
i7 920, EX58-UD5, 12B (6x2GB), 1x Intel PCI-E x1 for management, 1x Intel Quad Port GB PCI-E and then both onboard nics
Storage is local, Dell Perc 5i with 512mb and BBU with 4x1TB Raid 10
I was thinking of having just one machine, the i7 and using virtualbox instead (£170 for vmware workstation 9 is a little steep), however it would make the Perc 5i setup redundant as i was thinking of the following
i7 920
EX58-UD5
24GB (6x4GB)
256GB Crucial M4 (already purchased) (VM OS's)
180GB Intel 520 (already purchased) OS/Games
1TB WD Black (Already Purchased) - Data drives / games
that leaves me with the perc 5i, 4x1tb and the intel nics spare
however i do like the performance of a dedicated ESXI box, im just trying to find the most cost effective solution
Any suggestions are gratefully received
