Ok well im going to home depot sometime and i need to pick up some stuff

Right now i need some more renforced dremel cut off discs, metal drill bits (that can go through metal, steel that is), acrylic and some screw things o and mesh.

What are these screw things that are holding the window called?

they like just go into the hole, and you put a nut around it on the inside of the case i guess, whats it called? does home depot sell em?

And do they have the molding for windows?

Just go up to home depot and look. While most home depot stores have generally the same items, items and prices may vary from store to store, so they only way to know for sure is to go. They do sell screws, drill bits, and acrylic. Go to your store and see how big their sheets are.

As far as drill bits go, use a bit that is slightly bigger than the diameter of the threads of the screw.
 
No idea what kind of screws you have on that window, since the fasteners on mine are different. If you're looking for a screw with no slot in the head, you might find really small (like # 6 or # 8 machine screw size, no bigger than # 10, in my opinion) screws that are called carriage screws (or carriage bolts). They're designed for woodworking, with no slot in the head, a square neck right behind the head, then a regular threaded shaft right behind that. Usually in woodworking, the square neck grabs the wood, but if you can find small enough ones, you should be able to adapt them for what you need. Like jpmkm said, look around and see what they carry.

As far as that mesh goes, they might carry it. It's called expanded metal, and if you can't find it at HD, you might try checking Lowes, or even check in the yellow pages for steel distributors. You could even check online for it, likely in small quantities (since a steel supply company will probably have it in large sheets), now that you know what it's called. :D
 
I zoomed in and it looks like those aren't screws on the window; they're pop-rivets.

As for handles, look for garage door or gate hardware, possibly cabinet pulls (prettier, possibly not as strong).

Don't ask for acrylic, they either will be confused or point you to the paint department. Ask for plexiglass or Lexan.

Automotive store might be a better bet for the molding, but there might be some... possibly in plumbing?
 
homedepot has a worthless selection of screws/nuts/bolts.....go to true value stores.
 
i'm not going to get into a discussion here about it, but i work at home depot and i'm not sure what you mean by a "worthless" selection. we have an entire aisle devoted to nothing but screws, nuts and bolts. but anyway...

yes we sell acrylic, or plexiglass like othersider said. our store has anything up to 4 ft x 4 ft, and they can cut it to any size you like. kinda gets expensive when you get bigger sizes. sometimes customers leave remnants behind from cut pieces, so ask a millwork associate if there are any scrap pieces you can have for free or for a marked down price.

we also have those rivets. you will probably want to find that first, then you can buy the appropriate sized drill bit.

as for the molding, that might be harder to come by. we have weatherstripping, but i'm not sure if it will meet your needs. you'd have to see for yourself.

we also have something like that mesh called diamond metal lath. it's used for stucco work, but it looks just like that. you can get a 2 ft. x 8 ft. piece for about $6.
 
For both Home Depot/Lowes you can look in the gutter section for "gutter guard" it comes in a roll 6" x 20' fairly cheap, shiny aluminium and easy to work with. It looks very similar to what you have pictured except the holes are smaller. I bought a roll for my very first blow hole (back in 98... ack I'm old) It's not exactly resiliant to dents if you kick the front of your tower (I've never had a problem with dents and such, but some people are not exactly careful), but I'd doubting steel would be either. anywho makes a good looking fan guard on a budget.

hehe i dont really like asking people for stuff, unless I CANT find it AT all, so do they sell pre cut sheets already, such as 20"x20" or something? cuz thats what id need, i dont really wanna ask someone to cut it

so they sell pop rivets? ill just get those then, but ill try to look for the bolt things, ill check out the gutter guard mesh

cowgod, where iS THAt diamond mesh located in the store?
 
yeah, they sell pre-cut sheets of plexiglass in various sizes. i couldn't tell you what the smallest size is off the top of my head though.

the diamond metal lath is in building materials--it should be where the chicken wire and fencing stuff is.

don't worry about asking home depot associates questions, you're the one giving us our paychecks!
 
ok so its around all the fence supplies? like wooden fences?

and where would the eacrylic/plexi glass be?

If your working tomorow, you think you can check out some prices? o and do you guys have handles that can handle 36 lbs (the case) plus the weight of all the components inside?

Any substantial looking D-shaped drawer handles will work, provided the case is made well and won't rip apart from the top. I used large (~1" dia) washers between the screwhead and the interior ceiling of my Xaser III and it works just fine. The case with components weighs 50 lbs and the handles show no sign of letting up. If you want pics let me know.
 
ya pics would be nice, so i can see what they look like, they would be in the which section? :D

the case i have is a chieftec and i dont think it should rip, i can lift the case up by putting my hand under the top of the case and its fine, but theres nothing in it nor the side panels
 
hmm o garage door handles i see hahaha

well garage doors have tracks, so sure there heavy, but since there on tracks and rollers and all that crap ola its not heavy at least my garage door was like that (in my old house)

so i could look in the garage door section?
 
Sorry I have something against HD because the ones in Portland are terrible. Service is terrible, people are rude and flakey......I've found that true value stores carry even the smallest screws for computer parts. They even have a large assortment of plastic parts. Home depot just packages stuff up and sells them for a higher price. You can get singles or whatever amount you want at the true value stores for pennies. Anywho, not putting you down, I just never had a good experience at HD, I should probably visit the ones outside of portland.

Garage doors are counter weighted with springs, so that they "weigh" very little and are easy to open. They still have a lot of "mass." When you go to open them even though they feel "light," they move relativly slowly. Try opening a garage door that has a broken spring, ugg...


In my experiance with any major, wherehouse style hardware store; The employees know their department fairly well if not better, and they have a good general knowlege of common items around the store. This general knowlege though is of little help to me when I am looking for a very specific, uncommon item, that I have no clue what the correct name is, much less what department it might be in. You say "computer upgrade" and the employee looks at you funny in much the same way someone from comp-usa would look at you if you said, "I want a set of castors for my computer tower." While you are both speaking english, it seems that you are still not speaking the same language. Maybe a geekaneese translator would help. I generally wander the aisles for an hour or more looking at all the bits and bobs untill I find something close to what I want, but it is rarely what I had in mind when I set out to find it. Usually I have to take the almost what I wanted, and fabricate the part I really need.

Werd, they don't even carry plexiglass or Lexan either. I got to Lowes but even Lowes sucks sometimes too.
 
Different Depots carry different items. But their nuts and bolts section is comprable to anyone elses.

Also, I don't believe they cut plexi anymore. At least when I worked there.

For the "modders mesh" you should use the gutter guard. There is regular rolls of mesh for sale, but it is not protected. Our store kept it outside, so it was usually rusted or corroding.
 
hmm i need velcro or foram double stick tape and crap for stealthin my drives (i have velcro for fabric and i used some awsome super glue stuff but the velcro is kinda weak)

so i need new velco or double stick tape, would it be better to get it at homedepot or walmart?

i found this velcro thing at HD but its 19 bucks lol

You can get a roll of 3M Foam Mountng Tape at HD for about $4. It's double sided, but one side has a plastic cover so you can also use it as regular single sided tape if you want. It has a strong hold, and is easy to remove if you need to (it's made for mounting items to cars and the outside of buildings after all).
 
o really? dang, is it really thick? cuz wont that push the drive bay cover a lil too far?

edit: also how thick of acrylic do i need? 1/8 or 1/16? what?
 
woot, i went to home depot, i found the glvanized expanded steel stuff (the mesh) and it was nice 8 bucks, but i didnt have enough money (brought 53 and spent 49 bucks :( )

anyways i got everything (two sheets of acrylic) i didnt find anything pop rivets (forgot to ask the sales associates about em) so ill just use some regular bolts o well, and i got some nice handles

btw, i got a 7/64, 1/8 and a 3/32 i think titanium drill bits (each one has 2 bits only 3 bucks yaya) but umm which size is used for computer case screws and fan screws?

*2 head duty handles that fold, i was gonna get the garage door handles, but there so ugly and i want foldable handles
