Hi all,
I'm in the process of cutting the cord and going to an HTPC setup, but in order to do that, I would prefer to have a hard wired network rather than wireless.
The good thing is that there is already cat5e cable run to all of the rooms, only it's currently being used only as phone line. It's all run to a central panel in a one of my closets.
Here is a picture of the panel:
I'm not sure if I can use this panel to facilitate my network or not, as it's labeled Voice Module on the left side. The jack on the lower left side has a label that says "OUT", and the jack above that says RJ31X.
Also, in this cabinet is a bundle of cables, seen here:
I opened up one of the wall plates in the spare bedroom and poked around inside and found a grey cat5e cable, like one of the ones in the above picture, with no termination.
Now, I'm not sure if I can use the blue cables with that voice module panel, or if I need to somehow add another patch panel for all of the grey cables.
Please help me so I can cancel DirecTV once and for all.
