Hey guys, has anybody dabble into home automation? I'm thinking about remodeling my home and networking it properly, so that home theater, lighting and other home appliances are controlled via a mobile device (preferably Android/iPhone apps); but I'm clueless where to start, can anybody help me point in the right direction? Thanks!

Interested in this as well. Sub'ed. :) I'm finishing my basement and would like to take the opportunity to do a little automation. Something beyond my old X10 days.

I dabble in it. Currently using Homeseer and it gets an A+ from me so far. Normally have have sales at the end of the hear where you can score their HSPro for 400 bucks.

Integrates with all kinds of Tech. I have my HAI Omistat terms wired into them, using zwave lighting.

I have it setup with HSTouch on my Evo 4g and my Fiancee's iphone to control from anywhere.

If you are really into a challenge, I am sure you could do it all yourself without buying some overpriced kit. I am working on my own right now. I have a few things set up so far. Using a netbook to run it all is ideal because it pulls only 9 or so watts and is silent.

Just for a little more inspiration check out: http://projectjarvis.com/

Also there have been quite a few developments with RFID systems an home automation. I you ever saw the movie Antitrust as far as the digital paintings changing when someone walked into the room. I think project Jarvis is by far the most advanced so far.

I'd definitely be up for swapping around some of mine as well. X10 has some very nice features and some very well written custom open source apps for *nix systems.

Is there anything in particular you are looking at doing or just a complete overhaul?
