Anyone else noticed that the default PS3 user group is putting out 2.7 Million points a day?!!

Thats insane, at that rate they will pass all users in a week or two, and will start making a run for the top teams.....
 
I knew there were at least 10 new teams started by playstation forums and such, but I didn' t know there was a default PS3 team. You have a link to some info on this?

The 2ch PS3 team is going to be the one to watch as far as normal teams go. They pretty much rule UD and are based in Japan so you would think they have one or two PS3s at their disposal. :eek: It's just a good thing we have a 450 something million point lead on them. ;)

 
Ok, I see what you are saying now. There is a default username for the PS3, which is PS3. Wonder how they thought of that. :confused: The default team for the PS3 is the standard Default team.
 
We need to get some members with PS3s.

Yea the 2ch team does look like it will be quite dangerous. They are already at 1350 members and around 500k ppd.

Hey no need for a :(, computers were making a lot less PPD back then. Gimme a :D for how much faster the computer in front of you right now is than what you had then!
 
I think they need to move the PS3 name into a special category like they do for the no name group. I mean its not fair to have 30k PS3's competing against single users like FLECOM.
 
I'm just waiting for my student financial aid to come through. Waiting to see how much of an allowance they give me to buy a new computer :D Might be able to build two.

Maybe buy a PS3 might get you more PPD than a new computer? How many PPD are the PS3's putting out a day?

900 PPD for a PS3..Can easily beat that with a decent PC.. and you can actually use a nice PC for something besides folding

A single PS3 puts out 900 PPD? Wow, that is pretty good.

How many PPD would an ATI 1950XT (I believe that is the top of the line) put out not using extra power from the CPU?

I have about 400 machines running it, they are all at least dual core, some have 4 or 8 cores also... it shows as 700+ becuase each has at least 2 instances of F@H

and with the price of a PS3 you can make a real nice folding pc or two
 
1 PS3 F@H Team #33 here, besides nba live and resistance i really dont use my PS3. Xbox 360 and wii i use allot more so when i am not using it is yours 19 wu so far i started folding late i think sunday so i have to catch up to the othe Hard ps3.

I have an Athlon A64 3000+ running 24/7 and it puts up 83 PPD. I kind of doubt you can put a PC together for $600 that will get over 900 PPD unless consumer level ATI cards can put out something in excess of 500 points per day.

Unless Core 2s put up like 6x what my box puts up (which I doubt), it is starting to sound like a PC vs console war. I always see these in the video forum but I did not expect to see that come here.
 
You can make up two brisbane 3600 systems for < $600, assuming you will netboot them. Also, SMP client on my opty gets more like 600 PPD (not exact, but a frame is worth about 1200 and it takes me about 2 days to do it).

It isn't the C2D that is putting out 6X the points it is the HUGE bonus that you get from running the SMP client (which the C2D does very well). My C2D 6400 seems to give me around 1500PPD running the SMP client. I also have a C2D sitting beside it that is the same chip running the standard client and it gets about 220 PPD. That said I have a PS3 and all it does is fold..I almost bought a game for it the other day but then just went home and played with my Wii (hush Marty) I can't build my C2D rig for $600 (the cost of a PS3 since the 20GB don't seem to exist anymore) but I can build 2 PCs that will do dedicated SMP folding for less money and they will garner more points. Since I am effectivly using the PS3 as a dedicated folding box I can get more points for the same or less money

A very informative post.

A big problem with F@H seems to be that the points are not linear to the amount of work you do. I remember people talking about how an ATI card could do so much more work than a CPU however the project didn't give them all the points they deserved for the amount of work they did. Sounds like the SMP client is just another example of the very non linear and apparently meaningless point scale. I feel bad for the people who think of their score as their epenis. I fold and will continue to but after hearing this, I will never honor my score as a sign of merrit.

If there was not a point system, I think I would lose interest pretty quickly. Without some kind of measurement, it is hard to feel like anything is accomplished. I agree that the point bonuses are unfair, I feel they should just stick with a benchmark system based point scheme with no bonuses.
 
$600 ~1400 PPD system:

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-965QM-DS2 - $125
CPU: C2D e6300 - $181
Memory: GEIL 2x512mb PC6400 4-4-4-12 - $76
PSU: FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX400-PN $45

Total for Netbox = $427

If you want a harddrive and case, well those are about $40 each, so $507+shipping total.

This setup should overclock to at least 2.4Ghz with stock cooling, resulting in around 1400ppd. You could also bump up to an e6400 and stay on budget, or even an e6600 without the case.
 
My PS3 is folding just about 24/7 now for Team #33 :) It's much more convenient than leaving my main rig on all of the time. I'm not sure my main rig is 100% stable anyway. I know the PS3 is definitely uploading good data and it's flying through work units.

 
Odd because the 5ish boxes that I have at home that are folding 24x7 never give me any hassle at all but the PS3 client seems to hang on about every 10th WU it tries to upload..Now that wouldnt be a problem if the PS3 did anything but fold (like if I was using it to game or something where I looked at it occasionally) but as it sits now I just check every couple days after I finish watching a movie and the projector is already on to see if it is hung or not..
 
Hmmm, that's been happening to me too. I'm going to prioritize PS3 activity with Streamengine on my router and see if that fixes it.

I picked up a 1900GT for $129 from Newegg. I just started folding with it last night, but I've already put out 330, and expect to put out another 330 by the end of the day. Nothing phenomenal, but cheap as hell.

This isn't a lot, but every 9 minutes it completes a %. Way better than it was doing as a CPU box.
 
Also running a 1900GT here, how many seconds a frame is yours reporting? Also, are you running 3D clocks through ATITool?
Hint: GPU speed > RAM speed, I OC'd mine to 640MHz core and it does 2.2s/frame compared to the original 2.9s/frame. That's around 30% improvement.
