Just bought a bottom of the line Samsung color laser printer. It's pretty much average across the board but it has one absolutely outstanding feature. It prints the best photos I've ever seen come off any kind of printer including ink jets. Most color lasers do a crappy job of printing photos and this why most people still buy ink jets. This Samsung C1810 is a game changer. And at $140 bucks even.

And no, I have nothing whatsoever to do with Samsung.

With full page photos it's hard to say but the cartridge yield 2500 for the black and 1800 for the color. Samsung brand toner is $40 for color and $63 for black. After market toner is even cheaper and according to the reviews, works just fine.

But my point was how good this thing prints pics, not how much it costs to run. If cost per print is more important to you, do your homework and go with what you feel comfortable.

post a pic of a print.

Yeah, then I can print it and see which one looks better. :D
j/k, but a pic would be nice...and the source photo for comparison.

Even better would be if someone else has a decent inkjet and both had the same scanner, so we get a somewhat fair comparison...the paper would still be different, though. :/

I switched to a color laser (HP CP1518ni) from inkjets back in 2010 and never looked back. I just last week replaced the black toner cartridge for the first time.

It prints photos just fine. It is a network printer that supports postscript, so it works with all windows, linux and mac computers without special drivers. Pages don't smudge when you handle them. Toner doesn't dry out when not used. I hope it never breaks.
