When setting up my system, I left it in bios for about 15 mins. When I came back, the PC health status showed CPU @ 51 degrees idle WTF!?!?!? I have a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu HSF, its set @ max rpm using the FANMATE (fan controller) ~2490 rpm

I used the thermal greese that came with the HSF. I thought what the heck, it wouldn't make THAT much of a difference if I went out and bought Arctic Silver, which costs ~50 HKG equivalent to 7 US for 3.2g   :(

Maybe the heatsink is not properly installed...

And btw bios temps is always under load.

If your cpu is reading from the mobo probe then you should lower that reading by 10°C

No, thermal goo doesn't make that great a difference all by itself, only a couple degrees C usually. More important is the overall airflow through the system. It doesn't matter if you have the heatsink's fan on full speed, if that air doesn't go anywhere it just sits there hot. This would be my first guess, not knowing anything else about your setup.

If the thermal probe were on the motherboard, that would err on the low side, not the high side. Temps are always going to get lower the further you get from the heat source. (51 degrees isn't emergency-level though... my chips push past 60 when under load for long periods, and have suffered no ill effects.)

Is that really true that the bios temps are load temps? Ive never heard that.

Possibly true... I've noticed temps climb while sitting in the BIOS. Perhaps the CPU isn't allowed to do NOPs and other power saving things while in the BIOS?

My Bios temps are usually about the same (well, within a few degrees) as when I'm running Prime95 for awhile. So I'd say that the CPU isn't allowed to do the NOP's and power saving that it's allowed to do in Windows.

and just to state it, my CPU hits about 66c when under heavy load - no ill effects. But I have an Aeroflow HS with a delta 60mm fan on it (no speed control....what was that you said?? I'm sorry, couldn't hear you :p ) Going to get a Zalman 7000CU in about a month though.

Just double checked the HSF. It wasn't making max contact with the CPU...tightened the screw and bingo lowered it by 6 degrees C lol 45 C idle now
