Lately my 80gb seagate hard drive has been making some funny noises... Like, a high pitch sound, leading to a click, then a high pitch sound, leading to a click. Sometimes it will repeat this over and over again until I decided to shut the computer off, and then open up the case and remove the data cable from my storage drive (The hard drive thats been making funny noises).

Every now and then, i'll hear the "high pitch noise, leading to a click." once, and then it doesn't do it again for a while.

Is my harddrive about to die on me? Cause if it is, i'm going to be bitter =\

How long has it been doing this? and is the click fairly loud?]

Sounds like to me you need to prepare funeral arraingements.

Ummmm, its been doing it for about 1 week to 1 1/2 weeks.

However, remember when I said "It doesn't do it ALL the time though." I wasn't lying. It only does it sometimes.

The high pitched noise is actually louder then the click, the click itself isn't that loud at all.

Sounds like it's the STIR (Seek To Increase Reliability) that is built into Seagate drives driver, can be very annoying.

The drive, when idle, automatically starts seeking, sounds like a long buzz followed by a click.

I had seagates in my main rig, but that STIR annoyed me so much that i put them in my fileserver and got WD's for my main rig.

According to seagate your drive is not about to die, it is to prevent it from dying :p but most annoying.

hahahahaha, thats somewhat funny. The noise actually gets to me, when it does it for a long period of time, I shut off my computer and disconnect my drive.

Its not a buzzing noise though. Its a high pitched noise then a click, and just repeats until I either shut off the comp and disconnect it, or until I shut off the comp for a long period of time, lol.
