Ok, so my crappy $50 Ultra PSU is going to die soon.
Time for my last upgrade to my system (yea right)
Anyways

On nvidia's site, it lists the seasonic s12 650w as certified for 8800 GTS SLI. So I was thinking of getting one ($170 is not bad). Anyone got any spare thoughts/drawbacks?

other possibilities:
OCZ 700W ($130) or 850W (~$200) (if I don't feel like a cheap bastard)
Seasonic M12 700W (~$210) (read above note)
Corasair 620W ($170 - don't know if it would have enough power for another 8800GTS)
Silverstone Zeus 750w (~$210)

I know the OCZ is FSP core, and the corsair is Seasonic core, etc...
All the reviews are great for all of them (great load handling, stability, ripple, etc...)
But some long-term user experience input is also appreciated.

Any other recommendations? Nothing over the $200 mark (tuition > PSU . . . for now)

edit: modular is not that big of a concern

If modulare is not a big concern, then the S12-650 is the perfect choice for you. The Corsair 620W recently did a design change and is now certified for 8800GTX sli with the 4 pci-e connectors prewired. Those are you good choices for under 200$

Well, the corsair only puts 3x18A, while each GTS is 30A.
The seasonic is a good 4x18A.
Just worried that if I decide to SLI in the future, there won't be enough juice.
I don't know how the Corsair could be GTX SLI certified.

edit: I am hovering my finger over the order button for a PCP&C Silencer 750
(paychecks ftw)

The Seasonic is what you want. IT offers silence, performance, and a combined total of 52 amps on a single rail. Not on split rails, as the label says.

Also, each GTS is NOT 30 amps. That's for the whole system. You can easily do SLI 8800GTS or even GTX's with the right adaptors, on the Seasonic 650.

K, ordered teh Corsair.
Yaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hmm... So how do you determine a PSU is going to "die soon"?

Just curious. ;)

Avast, ye scurvy customer, thank ye fer bein' a patron o' our fine ship!

It lets out a high pitch of whining death and your computer shuts down...

Hope the new PSU solves the problem! :D

Because typically, a high pitched whine is just a loose winding on a transformer.

Well, I have no annoying whines or such. I've been noticing voltage droops and random freezing that was never there before. I guess now that I have some nice high end parts, my free Ultra PSU isn't going to cut it. Also, why did I spend $30 on those Sycthe S-Flex fans when I can still hear that loud as hell PSU? I had to turn down my overclock (3.6ghz -> 3.2), but i'm 99% sure it'll stabilize when I get my HX620. And yes, I am cheap because I went with free 5-7 day shipping instead of $1.99 3 day shipping.

I wish I didn't have to leave my internship yet though. I could take that PSU into one of our radiation treatment vaults and do some hardcore testing with some industrial scopes/load testers and maybe some radiation too. How many grays/rems is this thing rated for? Haha, ah well.

Reading jonny's reviews will have to suffice.
