Just got cod4 and evertime i try to connect to a server I get timed out, i tried /reconnect, i even set the timer to 60, i have been trying different servers for about an hour now, I have version 1.7. Is there a fix for this?
alright well i am lost, i tried to get into a non pb game, and it worked so i was like alright it must be pb, then i went and tried a pb game and it worked, I tried another game and again it worked. So i was like alright maybe the problem worked it self out, then i tired another another pb enabled server and it didnt work, so i tried another non pb server and again it didnt work. So i am stumped It cant be pb if it has already worked a few times in pb games, and hasnt worked a few times in non pb enabled game. It cant be my ports if it has worked atleast 3 times. BTW i tried the server that worked twice and the second time it didnt work again, and on another note, the 3 times i did get into a game it joined instantly. Any thoughts?
alright i d/l pbsetup ran that and updated, i also went into my router and port forwarded 28960 tcp and udp to my default IP. These are the only 2 ports i could find that cod4 needs, am i missing some, because cod4 is still timing out
Ok. That's good. Now we can look elsewhere. Thank you for forwarding the ports.
Are you running a firewall on your pc (windows, or zonealarm)? Is there anything else on your network consuming high bandwidth (torrents)? What kind of router do you have?
Next thing I would try is if you have a router, bypass it directly and connect your PC to the modem to your cable or DSL (hopefully you don't have 56K). This will eliminate the router as suspect.
If you are unable to do that, then try to place your PC into the DMZ on the router. Beyond that, see if your modem is giving any errors or if the signal is degraded. Reboot the modem also, as well as the router if you haven't already.
i have vista firewall which i already tried disabling and did nothing. It will be hard for me to connect my computer directly to my modem because my wire coming from my computer is to short, and the only way i could do it would be to change somethings around which i will need to run a wire through my wall again which I rather not do. I have a DI-604, I see the option for DMZ and i guess all i need to do is click enable, but i am unsure what this will do?
Let me make sure i did the port thing right this is what i did
I brought up my router page and went to the advance tab where it says virtual server
I clicked enable, added a name (just made it cod41 and so on)
added the private IP that i used to get to the page i was on (the one i typed into the web browser)
changed the protocol type to either TCP or UDP
added the ports
Private port 28960
public port 28960
schedule set to always
clicked apply and it added it to the list
I know this is prob something very easy, but i have never had to do this before so i am jyst making sure i am doing it right.
BTW i dont have a static IP atleast i dont think i do (for the IP i have now is the default) is this a problem?

o alright yeah the IPv4 is the number i have plugged in, there is a subnet mask number i have never seen before, but i guess that has nothing to do with anything.
yup gaming mode is enabled. About the DMZ mode if i just click enable can this rule out it being a router problem if cod4 still doesnt work? and is it as easy as disabling again to get everything back to normal?
I should be getting another router soon need a wireless one
alright just enabled DMZ and restarted my computer and tried getting online with cod4 and nothing changed still get timed out, so i guess that rules out PB and my router, what could it be, this is pissing me off.
Do you have another computer that you could try installing COD4 on? So that we can rule out your PC in case. But if the problem persists on a different computer, we'll know it's the router.
well i run crysis, age of conan, and world of warcraft online with this computer, I have more then enough power with this computer(not that this will have anything to do with getting online). I tried a few times to open cod4 with administrator, and tried getting online with that.
wtf, alright i go and uninstall cod4 just to maybe reinstall and try fresh, but guess what i uninstall and now i cant find anyplace to reinstall. I load up the disk and the menu comes up, and i get the options play singleplayer or multiplayer or uninstall if i press any of them the screen just closes and i have nothing to do. whats going on now.
