HL2 tweaks anyone

set the game details the lowest they will go and play the game in 640x400 or 320x200 that should bring nice enough performance on low-end machines.
 
PUt this in your autoexec.cfg right next to half life config. Eliminates stuttering for the most part. but make sure to Quick save when you need to:

cl_forcepreload "1"
sv_forcepreload "1"
cl_smooth "0"
sv_autosave "0"
