i'm playing hl2 then w/out warning i get a black screen. then my system restarts. this happens, every time i play the game. this is my system in a nut shell
amd 64 3500+
asus av8
1gig ram
ati 9800pro 256mb
xp pro
this is the only game thats done this. however i've not been gaming a hole lot lately
i believe i'm running catalyst 4.10. this is also what i ran on my last system, with no prob
but i guess different systems apply different. i'll update my drivers and check it agin
the power supply is a sure power 600w, this so far has only happend w/ hl2. i just finish
screwing w/ the drives i used 4.08, 4.09, 4.10, now 5.02 i used ati - software
uninstall utility between drivers. it still crashes some times i can play for an hour some
times 2 min. any other suggestions would be great.
Ok, i had the EXACT same problem and it was only with Half-Life 2. It turned out it was my memory's timings we're to tight for the mhz i was running them. The game usually crashed when it was about to load a new area, etc. What sort of RAM do you have?
Also try turning off Fast-Write's, set AGP to 4x just to check if its that. I also found with my board AGP voltage needs to be at 1.6v instead of 1.5v to be stable at 8x AGP.
My settings:
AGP 8x
Fast Writes Off
AGP volts 1.6v
oh, sorry no bsod. the game locks freezes what ever. then some trippy bizzar graphic
display, black screen. finaly it restarts, this all happens in a little less then 2 min.
there are no errors warnings or anything like this.
i'll try those changes. my ram is a little miss matched. 2x 512 1 is ddr-333 the other is
ddr-400 do you think its time to pop for some , duel channel, could the memory
it's self be the problem. if i removed the ddr333 could this resolve my issue
i tried all these things with no luck. i did though just for shits and giggles try an old
(nvidia mx 440) video card. aside from the crappy res it plays fine without crashing. this
pretty clearly points a finger at my video card, but what do i do now is this when i
start talking to ati. could it still be something else any input would great.
most mobos suggest you use the exact same memory sticks when running dual channel. not just same speed but the exact same sticks (timings, brand, etc)...
