HL2 benchmarks prove...nvidia still on top...

I just saw the benchies over at VR Zone. I was amazed that after all the hoopla over the supposed d3d ATI supremecy...it just wasn't there. At the very least there was alot of "neck and neck." And yes, the x800 xt pe does pull away but ONLY at the very highest resolution available...but, that's it. I for one was pleasantly suprised. This 6800 series is simply...unstoppable. The best is yet to come with better driver optimizations. I'm glad that the truth is now being told.

VR _zone hardware. It is a counter strike bench that is using the new HL2 engine. Go to nvnews.net for more.

1. XT-PE came out on top

2. that was the de_dust benchmark. Not the HL2.

3. its cpu limited

I guess he's talking about these: http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=1181&s=8

CS:S benchmarks, or even the 11 month old stolen code benchmarks that other sites are printing, don't prove anything about HL2 performance. The benchmarks above are CPU limited and even the stress test released today in the CS:S beta doesn't prove anything.

The game isn't too far off and the real performance will be benchmarked not too long from now.

um, could be optimizations on both sides, nvidia could get better d3d, so could ati. who knows, who cares, from how it looks, they all will play CS:S at 16x12 at 4AA 8AF (cept the vanilla 6800)

I mean, if you want to get pedantic, the ATI XTPE almost always wins and as you say, you when crank the res, then yes, its lead extends....sooooo, this means what? its more powerful?

I mean, whats up for interpretation?

Anyways, it all looks good.

So now let's discredit a reputable report. You guys just want to fuss....get real. Go read the article...it is reported AS THE HL2 ENGINE. Just accept the truth...the X800 XT PE...is good....but it doesn't ...come close to shutting down the 6800's!

or both cards are high end and they are the best at what they do...wow what a concept

This says otherwise

title of your thread: "HL2 benchmarks prove...nvidia still on top... "
title of vr-zone article: "Counter-Strike: Source Benchmarked"

game tested in article: Counter-Strike: Source, not Half-Life 2. As a matter of fact, it wasn't even tested with the stress test that came out today in that article. That might have been more argument worthy.

To beat the point home, Counter-Strike: Source is not the same game as Half-Life 2. When HL2 is available, we'll all be benchmarking (and even sometimes playing ;)) it and we'll know for sure how it runs on 6800s vs x800s.

Its a barren map with little to no real stress CPU limited on all but the highest reses. I dont think the 6800 is gonna get creamed in HL2, but common this is kind pathetic of you :/

Sig updated.

ROFL.. Great sig man. Keep it up. It looks to be correct. Trancendez and empy are usually helping everyone though. Sometimes I just don't know.. I hope I don't stir up trouble. These guys are pretty cool and contribute a lot to the community. :)

That ATI pulls away at highest resolution tells it all doesn´t it? As more and more stress is put on the video card the more it benefits ATI?

It would be better for nVidia if it would be the other way around ;)

Man I am sure I can run a Geforce 3 in CS at 800x600 and get excellent framerates very much comparable to 6800 ULTRA scores

1600X1200 6XAA 8XAF

80.2FPS

Specs are in my sig. Just like any other game thats out there now. Both cards will run it great. </thread>

I didn't know that Nvidia GF6800 supported 6xAA

Uhh, might wanna try some newer drivers.
I've got a BFG 6800GT @ 450/1.15Ghz and I get 91.77FPS using the same settings on a P4 3.0C Stock, IC7-G, 2GB BH5 2-3-2-5.

Using the new forceware 65.52 betas, haven't tried anything else.

From the article:

"This is a good indication that ATI probably has a winner on its hands with games based on the Source Engine, but really it's a little too early to tell. Also, Counter-Strike: Source does not seem to be as graphically demanding as some scenes in Half Life 2 that we have seen, so we might be able to see some variation in performance when the game finally ships sometimes in August.

In conclusion, these numbers are not a final assessment of performance in the Source Engine ... The R420 based cards that we saw were able to give the best performance at high resolutions with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering enabled, and therefore I do have confidence in saying that the ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition will be the fastest graphics card for games based on the Source Engine, particularly Half Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source."

Read: CS:S =! HL2
Read: ATI > NVIDIA

Per the article that you said the exact opposite about.

How'd this guy not get banned after his many other usless posts...

Its apparent that both the X800's and 6800's will run CS:Source Beta just fine at pretty much all the resolutions..

whoopie!!!
