so when will the hl2 benchmarks come in? today? tmr? juss wonderin.. :)

I would honestly love to bench it for ya, but i'm too engrossed in the game to stop for a moment. Idk why i'm even on [h] writing this :D

allow me to be the first to put in the obligatory HAHAHAHAHAHA@DRIVER HEAVEN LOLZ!!! :p

Ouch, if thats true then i gues valve delivered on the performance promise and then some in some cases, then again it is driverheaven, doesn't even list the cpu make speed or system spec.

I'll reserve judgement till i see it on hardocp, to be honest i could care less what does better as im enjoying this game too much to really give a damn about e-penor comparrisons.

That is so lame, Driver heaven ripped those straight from ATi slides.

Also I highly doubt that he's been playing it for a week. Wait for Anandtech or HardOCP to do it.

Anyone besides me notice also that the Ultra was capped at 100 fps on like two of the tests...

I might just buy me a X800 for this game... and or a new computer :)

And this is why when people tell me I'm going to hell I take it as a compliment.

It's not FPS, it's %. It makes you wonder if this is the same guy who benchmarks for MichaelsComputers.

Maybe you should look a bit closer ;)

Probably the other way around - ATi got their numbers from DH.

No doubt all the other HL2 performance reviews will show ATi with a big lead though - they paid enough money for it after all.

those numbers came from the ATI slides

Exactly. Nvidia paid for Doom 3 performance and ATI paid for HL2 performance.

i dunno im just glad i traded my gt for a x800xt.

1280x960 4xaa 8xaf i get 100fps, when vsync is on.

when its off i get 77-227fps. man this game looks beautiful.

Well based on shadermark 2.1, there are alot of shaders that run faster in ati hardware..

::shrugs:: im running 1280x1024 with 6xAA and 16xAF and its very smooth. the game is indeed beautiful, but the GT and XT perform on par with eachother

Nvidia paid for Doom 3 performance
Have you got any proof of that?

You can't deny NV's OpenGL performance is much better than ATi's........Doom3 uses OpenGL............it's not hard to see why NV was quicker in Doom3 is it? ATi have only got themselves to blame for their initial lacklustre Doom3 performance, their OpenGL speed is nowhere near what it should be.

This situation is different, it's a matter of fact that ATi had a deal with Valve for at least $6-8 million dollars. When you look at the DirectX performance of the 6800U it's generally pretty close to the XT-PE (although ATi certainly seems faster generally) - now all of a sudden this ATi-funded game runs up to 55% faster on the XT-PE??

Now NV have got to play catch-up. :)

Of course he doesn't.

But it's easy to prove the other case... ATI gave Valve $8 million for the marketing/bundle rights for HL2.

I don't really care if ATI is faster though. HL2 plays great at 1600x1200 2xAA 8xAF (reflect world, rest highest) on my mid-range 6600GT card. :D 6800GTs and Ultras should be able to play smoothly at 1600x1200 4xAA/8xAF with all details highest.

It was 6 million but hey who cares!

gosh some reliable sites hurry up and bench this game already!!!

I would love to see some reliable benchmarks... but lets look at it this way.

nVidia slept with id.

ATI slept with Valve.

Honestly... it's a moot point to agrue about which video card wins in these games (that is, unless an ATI wins in Doom or nVidia wins in HL2)... I say just see what your card can do, then worry about the other benchmarks :p.

I'm sure everyone else thinks things, but I needed to feel special and throw it out :).

If I can play HL2 on MY videocard @ 1024x768 with medium details I'm quite positive a 3 generation newer nVidia card will own this game...as long as I'm getting 60fps+ I don't care...in ANY game lol. Not phanboy talk to make it okay...if ATi owned nVidia in Doom3, as long as I got 60fps or more I'd be happy...but then again if ATI owned nVidia in OpenGL and Direct3D, I wouldn't be buying NV would I? :p

true.. but i am just so dang curious!!! and o yeah Brent how much longer?? tonite??!!! heheheheh

I run at 1024x768 with 4xAA 8xAF and everything else jacked on my 6800 nu (16 pipes) and it runs insanely well. Indoors it's always over 100, outdoors it never drops below about 40 or so with everything else going on.

I don't want to say that any card is better... just whatever you're comfortable with, and I'm content with my perfomance (especially for what I paid for it! )

Well just fire up 3DMark, it will tell you everything you need to know.

HAHAHA, LMAO...i watched that whole thing....pretty funny if you ask me (the video interview and the whole article)...

but yeah, i'd like to see some benches...but please, TO GOD, put the cards AT EQUAL DETAIL QUALITIES, AA/AF, AND RESOLUTION...just looked at the 6600GT AGP benchies, and i thought "hey, the 9800pro didn't do so bad...oh, wait, its at 1024x768 while the 6600GT is at 1280x1024..."

just saying it might make things a little easier....but maybe that's just my preference

*note - this post was not a flame, diss, anger post. it was merely an opinion as to what i think would be better.

I'd like to say thanks to Brent for workin his ass off to get us knowledge leechers a benchmark :) Whenever he gets it done is fine with me. I'm sure it's a big pain-in-the-ass switching cards over and over and over. Thanks in advance man.
