Alright I got a XP 2400+ Thoro, A7V333, 512 meg of Micron 2700 ram, and an Asus Ti 4600 300/650, I am only 16 and just got a job and will be waiting till windows Longhorn comes out to build a new comp so when it comes to money I have very little I just wanna know what I should be able to run HL2 at will probally be able to squeeze a 100$ for an upgrade.

for $100 you wont be able to get much more than a 4600 anyways so dont worry about video

I suspect that your CPU will be fine for HL2.
I think that the Ti4600 will get decent framerates, because it's still quite a fast card today.
However, it's only DX8, so you will miss out on the eye-candy.
Perhaps you can get a R9600Pro or XT for $100?
It may not be faster than the Ti4600, but it would give you the eye-candy in HL2, and other new games.

You would probably get by with medium detail, it's still a decent system, besides one of the goals of the Source Engine was to make it scalable.

HL2 will run like crap on your system and longhorn is just a code name for windows its not going to be called "LongHorn".

Only problems with ti4600 is that it doesnt like to OC (never tried mine) and its little cute stock fan can get filled with dust and die.
I just upgraded my a ti4600 to evga 6800 LE @ GT 350/1100 and, I used to play with medium settings in tribes vengeance and after playin on high/ultra high with my 6800 i saw all the great eye candy I missed..
I suspected my 3200+ was holding me back to 44 FPS (tribes:v uses the unreal tournament 2004 engine)
here is how i semi-verified it (i know even the engine is the same and the game is not, but its still pretty close)

As for it running, either way i'd hold off on spending $100 on the system you have now. Like everyone else said - it will probably run on low settings, but that $100 could go toward your new box and help a lot more.

They are a good speed upgrade over a Geforce 4 series. Going to 1 GB of RAM would also be good, but might be more expensive, and 512 MB is still good for running most current and near-term-future games.
