HL2 and exec text files

I saved my favorite cheats to text file with no extension. From the consol I type "exec myfile" and nothing.

so I move the text file around looking for the proper directory and even save it the root of D:\ and type

exec d:\myfile

but I always get the same message

can't execute myfile

Has anyone got this to function?

i have never done that before but i would try putting a .cfg extension at the end. i cant test it out at the moment though so good luck
