hello,

got a prob with my new HD : Hitachi 160 gb SATA2 with 8 mb cache.

every game which is installed on this drive, is constantly crashing. The more the game uses the disk, the more and the faster it crashes.

for example : Kotor 2 is crashing almost after I loaded the savegame.
but FEAR is working fine.
and CIV 4 is crashing after a round is ended, or a round later.

the crashes are kind of freezes. The image freezes, but the sounds goes on. Only sometimes, and at some games (i.e. : SW: Battlefront 2) it sounds freaky distorting.

On my old HD (Maxtor 40 gb somewhat old) the games work all fine !!!!!! with the same configuration !!!!

whats the problem ? Is there anything I've done wrong ? Or is it just damaged ?????

my sys:

athlon 64 3500+
Asrock S939 Dual SATA 2 ULI
Corsair Value Select 1024 MB RAM dual channel
Radeon 9700 pro.

PLEASE HELP !!!

which drivers ? from the HD ? a hd can have drivers ?? first heard of it.

or what do you mean ?

could it be that it makes problems when I also got the old maxtor IDE HD in the PC ?

my sys is still running on the old one..
the games run on the new one, but the temp files were put on the old one. maybe this is the problem ?

so that the game is catching files from the faster one, but putting the temp files on the old slow one.. so that they do not correspond correctly.

edit: at the last crash I could see a message from windows in the task bar which said "not able to write on drive.. lost files etc."

ok .. its sound really weird.. but I switched the SATA cable to the SATA1 connector (my board has two SATA1 and one SATA2) ... and now it works fine. no crashes.

seems that the SATA2 connector is damaged or something like that.

is it wise to switch to 3.0 in the hitachi tool.. even if it is put into SATA1 port ?
