Hit an O/C wall

Howdy all,

I am kind of new to the overclocking world but I know the basics and have had no problems oc'ing in the past. But I have hit a wall with my current box and I don't know what to do. You can check my specs in my sig. Here's the deal. Abit comes with overclocking tools in the BIOS (You also probably knew that already, sorry.) which I've used to get my current OC. I locked the AGP/PCI freq at 66/33 and I am not messing with the memory yet. (It's at 1:1 and stock timings with no PAT for now.) I left the CPU voltage at stock for now, too. So, all I'm really messing with is the FSB, which is defaulted to 200. (Ok, ok, so you knew that too, sorry.) Here's the problem, I have gotten her up to 234 no problem, no instability, tolerable heat increase, POST's just fine, etc. But here's the thing, I can't POST at 235 or higher and I have no idea why. It seems kind of wierd, 234 rock solid, 235 expensive paperweight. Any help you all could provide would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1.) up Vcore a notch, reboot, check for stability
2.) if unstable, up Vdimm a notch, reboot, check for stability
3.) if unstable, set FSB:MEM ratio to 5:4 or 3:2, reboot, check for stability
4.) if unstable, loosen memory timings (make higher numbers), reboot, check for stability
5.) if all this fails, you probably hit the wall with the memory. If you still want to OC farther, get higher rated RAM (PC3500, PC4000).

Also, what's your power supply like? And Temps?

your most likely getting stoped by your RAM at !:! thats puts the ram at 234 too and thats a damn nice OC for ram. Try putting the divider at 5:4 and see if 235 posts if it does then your ram is holding you back. you can then try upping the voltage on your ram to 2.8 see if that helps.

Also at 234 fsb your CPu may require a little voltage bump as well. Try the ram idea first so you can rule that out as the cause.
Then bump the voltage up one level at a time. also get Prime95
it will stress the hell out of things and tell you if you got rock solid Oc or not. Let it run atleast an hour and it will tell you if it errors. if it does then you got to make some adjustments( I.e Voltage, mem timings ect) keep an eye on your temps too while running prime if it goes over 60C I would back it down. 70C is the max a P4 can take acording to intel and I don't know bout you but more than 60C just doesn't make me feel comfortable.

Good Luck.

the 2.4 C is a great overclocker. also thing about replacing that stock HSF if thats what your using. I just ordered a Zalman 7000Cu and I'm hoping to hit 3.75
