Hissing

There is a quiet hiss coming from speakers/headphones powered by a Denon AVR 1705 (at the moment through the headphone jack) while using spdif rca from onboard PC audio or regular mini to rca analog mode (FM radio too, even audible while switching between stations). I've tried all the processing modes (DPL DTS direct etc) to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Also: should I try a shielded coax or a toslink cable from monoprice? Probably not, right, as it seems to be the receiver itself?

How? Running wires to a ground pin in an outlet? To the frame of the receiver?

(<3 your sig.)

Edit: the unit only has a polarity sensitive power plug with no ground, could it be that the chassis is an insufficient ground?

Try running a wire from a known good ground to a screw on the chassis of the receiver. You may have a grounding point/screw on the back of the receiver already.

What else is the reciever connected to? My stereo reciever has a wierd hiss/squeal noise that I've traced to my TV picking up charging noise from my apc back-UPS. It contaminates the output. Try plugging just the reciever into the wall directly and headphones in, no FM antenna either. Then plug stuff in one by one to see if there's anything in particular that is causing the noise that you can fix.

I tried the power strip and wall socket (no antenna), also ran a wire from a ground screw on the receiver to my PC chassis, and when moving the contact it would make a slight pop but still hissed. Anything else to try?
