just got a viewsonic 19" LCD moniter, and righjt after I first started it up hooked up to the PC , my speakers starting hissing at the lowest volume. Why?

i think they're shielded, but not sure. They are set up about 6 inches below and slightly to the sides of the moniter, on my desktop, whereas the lcd is up on a moniter stand.

LCDs tend to use switching power supplies which generate plenty of RF noise. Try isolating your LCD into a separate power outlet strip / preferably one with a filter.
Try and keep the audio cable coming out of your sound card going into the speaker (or receiver) as far away from the LCD cables as possible, and finally if you can, keep the speaker cables from the subwoofer or receiver as far away from the LCD as you can.

strangely enough, wiggling the cable going into the sub cleared it up. Weird that it started happening when i plugged in the LCD.
