I've got the opportunity to pick up a HIS 4870 for below MSRP locally in Toronto, Canada.

My question is, what's HIS like? I hear a LOT about visiontek, powercolour etc, but nothing about HIS. What's their warranty support like. How long does their warranty last. Any good/bad RMA experiences?

Additionally, the word "HIS" is only 3 letters, which doesn't allow me to search for it in the [H] forum search!

Cheers!

I'm curious myself as well... if you can wait for stock most etailers have a 20 dollar rebate

BTW: visiontek is back in stock at the egg for the 4870!!! :)

I'm not a US citizen, so I get a tad shafted when it comes to 4870 availability. I'd MUCH rather have sapphire, since their RMA dept is in Canada!

From the most part, I've heard HIS is pretty good. Though I'm not sure how to pronounce it "H. I. S." or "his"?

i've purchased his cards many times but have only had to rma once. maybe just luck?

Well, I bought it. Around 310$ Canadian taxxed and overnighted... Even if it dies in a year... I spend more than 290$ on coffee and such!

I'll give you all results when I get her in my hands!

I *really* hope it does well in Oblivion with Qarls Texture Pack... I'm averaging around 30fps with my 8800GTS640 with some AA and such on, so I'm really hoping to see a nice 30% bump in all situations. Who thinks this'll happen?

these 4870's are monsters. easily 30% faster than an 8800ultra if not more. i tend to chalk up any kind of poor performance in older titles with new silicon as something of a driver issue because they tend to get rectified with driver refreshes.

Well, looking at most reviews, It seems to be about 30% faster than the 8800GT in Oblivion... Which is about 20% faster than the 8800GTS640 in Oblivion @ my res...

I'm hoping for a 10fps boost (get me to 50fps in heavily grassed areas, everything maxxed out, in combat with 4xaa 16xaa) over my 8800GTS.

We'll see!

i tend to use crysis as a metric, and since a 4870 can handle the game at 19x12 with a good number of the settings on high as opposed to the ultra that plays better at 16x10, to me the 4870 is a good chunk faster than an ultra.

Make sure you purchase it with a credit card that offers you an 1 year extended warranty since HIS only carries a 1 year warranty.
