HIS X1900XT ICEQ3?!

I was just curious, im looking at the HIS ICEQ 3 X 1900XT as my next vid card, and wanted to know if the ICEQ3 provides a noticable difference in temperature and noise level, over other X1900XT's as their website suggests. The other choice I had were the Saphire, both come with a good bundle of software and goodies, so does the HIS warrant the higher price tag!?

According to this (halfway through the page) it doesn't cool a whole lot better but its a lot more quiet. Let me tell you that the default x1900 cooler does a great job cooling its just a little loud. So then, it may be worth it if it's not a whole lot more expensive.


However, there are some really good deals out there for x1900s. I see some @ newegg.com for about $400! I wouldn't pay more than $30 extra for the cooler.
 
I'll have more info tonight. My HIS card is out for delivery as I type this. Newegg just dropped the price on said card to $389. Too bad I paid $429 about two hours before that happened. Also a $10 MIR on them now, too.

The cooler DOES cool better as well.

My card runs around 43C idle and never hits 75C under load. From what i hear, the stock cooler has the card at over 90C under load quite frequently.

Of course, it's a lot quieter as well.

So then what im reading is that it does do what they say, but if the price difference is more than 50$ it doesnt really seem worth it.
 
I have been using my sapphire x1900xt with the above cooler for a couple of weeks now after problems with *%$*! 7900GT's.... (don't get me started).

Have to say that it is quiet and cools like a dream. Idle temps are at 35 deg C and at full load with aggressive o/c (can't recall exactly, but both CCC sliders are 15 from top) where it reaches 80 degrees.

Fan remains quiet all the time and I'm well pleased.

System is an 4400 X2 at 2500MHz enclosed in a thermaltake tsunami case, system temps range 35-38 degrees.

I'm getting 6040 3DMark 06 and FEAR plays at 1280x1024 maxed-out with V-Sync enabled and average frame rates of 66 (max 75 due to VSync) with no artifacts.

I gather you didn't read my review of the accelero x2? Its impossible to remove if you used their ram pads. They have friggin super glue and wouldn't come out no matter how much I tried heating them with 3dmark06 loops and a blowdryer.

For my ears it was worth it. And it's not $50 difference. As a matter of fact, the ICEQ3 right now on newegg is $389 with $10 rebate, so $379. Not sure where you can find a retail card for under that with with even a stock cooler....

The more shocking thing is people put that much sticky foam tape on ram chips that probably get up to 70C and are surprised it's really hard to get it off. Well, they could have used the foam mats that ATi did. I forgot about that.
 
i would get the cheapest 1900xt you can buy, and then spend another 30 bucks on the Accelero x2 cooler. it provides better cooling than the HIS cooler, but it doesnt push the hot air out of the case. Your case has to have very good circulation or ambient tempts will rise a bit.

As to gersson, just dont use their ram pads, use some artic silver or what not to create a good connection between the ram and the heatsink. that might work.
 
But the Accelero X2 does work pretty well...I have one on my HIS (non ICEQ3 :( ) X1900XT and temperatures seem good and the noise level is fine. I did use the provided tape as well. I'm not sure what the big deal is?
 
After using a Sapphire X1900XTX for a few weeks with fan speed tweaked with ATITool to kick in harder at lower temps, I shelled out for the H.I.S. X1900XTX ICEQ3 and I do not regret it. It keeps the card cooler and the noise difference is HIGHLY noticable. I can not hear the ICEQ3 fan over the system fans of the three systems in use. The stock cooler drove me nuts while gaming. The price difference is well worth it. And I'll wait for a decent third party cooler for the Sapphire X1900XTX and put it to use at some point. Hopefully one like the ICEQ3 one.
 
Finally got my HIS card installed this morning. Previously I had a Sapphire X1800XT with stock cooler (for which I'd purchase the X2 but never installed). The HIS card is much cooler and MUCH quieter than the Sapphire under load. Loving the card and the Egg has a good price on it.

GREAT! Thanks for the input all. I think the HIS card is the clear winner, IMO, although the X2 solution also seems like a good alternative.
 
The 'Egg needs to get some of these in stock, so I can pick one up.

I am tired of the RMA circus with my EVGA 7900GT KO SC POS.

You might want to try e-mailing NewEgg and ask if you could get the price diffrerence. I had that happen to me (although it wasn't as big as a price differential as yours) and they automatically credited me the difference in price.
