Alright, I'm about to pull the trigger on an X1800XT tonight or tomorrow, I've narrowed it down to two brands that are in my price range ($400 ish).

Who's got the best quality, customer service, and warranty?

Also, if any of you have any stories about either, I'm all ears (or.....er.....eyes).

I guess the ATI forum doesn't have as many posters as the Nvidia one. It's never taken more than 5 mins to get a responce over there.

thats cause nvidia doesnt make their own stuff.
most of the ATI products are ......... get this...... ATI

and back to your question,
maytbe someone can answer it, in the mean time

and HIS also has made a good name for itself with the 9800 pro series that they made.

Giga is also good, but im not sure if tis that much better,

I would say that generally, most people buy ATI or Sapphire, and only because of the price.
There are only subtle differences, not as big as withe Nvidia brand.

Most of the X1800/1900 cards are made by Sapphire and other companies just put their sticker on it. However other companies offer different warranties, bundles, etc., so if that is important to you then base your decision on that.

Why can't I find any specific warranty info on Gigabyte's or HIS's websites, or on their newegg listings?

Oh and also, on the HIS site it says you cannot use the drivers off ATI's site because those drivers are made for the BBA cards that have different BIOSes. What's the deal here. I'd like to be able to use omega's and official ATI drivers.

wait... what? you cant use the standard ATI drivers? uhh.. this sucks, i just ordered my HIS x1900xt card on newegg.com...

I just ordered a HIS x1900xt as well. I don't see why you couldn't use the standard Cat's, all the cards should be the same with the exception of the HS sticker

HIS usually adheres to a higher standard of quality than Gigabyte. Of course, my personal favorite is Sapphire because of the product bundles and amazing customer service. But, if you can't do Sapphire, HIS is the next-best.

I ordered the HIS X1800XT finally. Their reason for the different drivers was that they claimed the drivers released by ATI have some features that are specific to the BBA card BIOSes. Kinda strange.

Does anyone have a recent HIS card to either verify or refute these claims?

I'm just about to install my HIS card, I'll be the first to tell ya haha. Are the most recent ATI drivers from their site the drivers that I should be using (assuming I can use official ATI drivers..)? Or is there a beta driver site?

Gigabyte's warranty is 3 years from time of manufacture. Their RMA service is dog slow though.....ie about 4-5 weeks. They do not do advance RMA's, and they do not contact you during the RMA period.

lol, there's almost no way they could make their RMA process any worse, other than making it take longer. It's almost as though they sat down and planned out the worst sounding RMA service they could manage.

Awesome, I'm looking forward to your responce. I'd just try the offical Cat drivers.

Yes I was most displeased with the service I received or didn't receive....whatever.

I only use them because they are the only heatpiped 6800/x800 level cards I can get from a manufacturer reliably. I sure wish someone else would offer them.

havent run any games or 3dmark tests yet but the standard drivers SEEM to be fine. i'll do 3dmark05/06 and bf2 within the next hour.
