HIS HD3870 Graphics Corruption

Hello, I just got my HIS HD 3870 last week and installed the drivers that came on the cd. I noticed that I was getting some different graphics corruptions in different games. In TF2, I was getting some weird polygons jutting out from different characters and the same in COD4 and HL2. I thought maybe it was a driver issue so I updated to the 7.11s and I still get them just not as frequent. Is my card broken or just a driver issue? Anyone else having this problem? Should I exchange it? I am kind of dissapointed. I upgraded from an ATI X1900XTX. Not much of an improvement in performance.

Thanks for any suggestions or help!

Here are my specs.

AMD Athlon x4200+ OC to 2.6
3 Gig Cosair xms2 5-5-5-12 at 260mhz
Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe
HIS HD3870
7.11 drivers

try different drivers, when I had my 2900 pro I was having the same problems with half life 2 E:2.

'I upgraded from an ATI X1900XTX. Not much of an improvement in performance.'

hope you are joking

COD4 is working fine here at max setting, 64-bit vista and catalyst 7.11.

Probably your Athlon overclock is unstable.

I got a x2 3800+ overclocked to 2.2 and a 3870 with the 7.10 drivers and I play COD4 maxed out like butter.

Those sound like artifacts stemming from overclocked or overheated RAM.

I guess your overclock on your cpu might be unstable. BUt if it is I would expect it to shut down frequently. Have you tested your cpu for stabability?

If its not that then it must be that your card is defective.

Yeah, Everything seems stable except for the artifacts and I also get some pausing during game play. Memory overheating on the vid card or system mem? I also fried my psu today. Could that have been the problem?

I am going to RMA the card back to the egg. I have a feeling that the card is defective since I should be seeing a good jump in performance and the whole artifact thing. Thanks for all the help guys.

If you can, try it in a different system first! you never know, something else in your system could be the problem...

of course the psu could have been the problem and it probably is LoL since you fried it, looks like something was wrong

Well I ordered a new rig. Q6600 and the x38 chipset. I got a new PSU too.:p I will try out the 3870 once it's built and let you guys know the outcome. Thanks all!

I hate to burst your bubble, but I am having similar issues as you with Battlefield 2.

Just installed a new Corsair power supply...I get the same graphical glitches.

They only occur with AA enabled, though. Turn off AA and no glitches.

I've tried different drivers, different versions of Windows (XP and Vista), overclocking, underclocking....it's unnerving.

They are only small little screen glitches that appear when im flying a jet or in a chopper- makes me think i'm catching something out of the corner of my eye, like a jet or chopper coming for me, but its just a half second of screen corruption. Very annoying, esp. since I just sold two 8800 GTs. Now i'm looking for another one.

Your card is defective. RMA it to the manufacturer. Random triangle corruption doesn't really just appear from drivers :)

All this guess work if the system is stable makes my head spin. Have you stress tested the CPU , 3D card and memory for hours ?

Use software like Prime95 for CPU stress test, memtest for memory and maybe Atitool artifact scan for 3D card. Let each test run for hours and if no errors, you can be pretty sure about the stability of your system. No guess work needed, just stress test that system!

But at this point its pretty much guess work, which component is at fault, blaiming finger goes towards 3D card, but lets make sure ;)

ps. There has been some rumours going around the web, that the cause for 3870 card low supply is not in the AMD:s camp as the chips are plentiful, but board manufacturers are having tought time with some bad capacitators or something. Mayby you got unlucky and recieved a faulty card

Well, if youve played Crysis with an HD 3870 without the hotfix drivers, you'll see plenty of artifacts. Apply the hotfix drivers and they disappear.

You don't know about the Crysis hotfix drivers? Google them...you'll find them.

Ahh the Crysis hot fix. Well I am haveing the problems in other games not just Crysis.
Thanks

Me, too. I've been following this thread to see if you came up with a solution. I am getting some graphics glitches in battlefield 2.

So I am not the only one and it has to be a driver issue. The card wasn't getting that hot either. It did it with all of my pc running at stock speeds.

These cards might have a problem with AA. Try disabling AA in your games and see if the corruption goes away.

Did anyone actually try the AMD/ATI Crysis hotfix? Someone please try it out and report back. I heard that it will fix issues for not only Crysis but other games as well. I would hate to find out that my shiny new 3870 will have graphical issues.

Yeah I can confirm the hotfix works VERY well with Crysis. The game flies on medium-high settings and no graphics corruption at all. For me, anyway.

I am having a problem with Battlefield 2, though. Little blips of artifacts in game. I don't know if it's a bad card or drivers or what. It's kind of an old game, so maybe the HD3870 has a bit of an issue with it. But no one else has complained about it that i've seen, so I really don't know.

I just upgraded my power supply and changed back to Vista and I still get the same results with BF2.

As far as New Egg not giving a refund- that's okay with me. I'll just sell the replacement on Ebay, but as for now, i've been approved for an RMA refund.

Just waiting on eVga to ship a new 8800 GT SSC and that should about clear up the Battlefield 2 issue for me.

Well I just built my new pc (q6600) and a new power supply (620 watt corsair) and I am still getting artifacts in team fortress 2. Should I really RMA the card or is just drivers? Anyone else having the problem?:(

It's pretty obvious it's the card.

It might not be that obvious....we both have rebuilt systems and we both still have artifacts.

Drivers or two bad cards? I'll be able to tell in a week or so. I have my card on RMA replace from New Egg.

If it was drivers it would be widespread.

You would think. Maybe we're the only ones complaining about it. With me, they are barely noticeable...only little blips now and then.

Perhaps others don't see it as a problem. It annoys the hell outta me.

Yeah, somehow I doubt only 2 people out of everyone using ATI would complain about blips and triangles on the screen. It sounds like texbook RAM errors, either due to heat or bad RAM. If case temps are fine then either the cooler is busted or the RAM is. Either way it should be RMA'd.

Believe me, I hope you're right. I was enjoying this card...
