Hey all,

I just wanted to share this story, as its an example of something you dont see a lot now days. I recently (2 mos ago) bought a Hiper PSU, and installed it in my rig. All was well till I had to rearrange my HDD's. During the process, I stripped a couple of the metal pins in the SATA power connector. I had spares, but I still want all the wires. I also screwed up a Molex 4 pin that connects to the PSU directly. I simply wrote an e-mail to FrozenCPU about how much it would cost to replace them. I was willing to pay as it wasnt a manufacturers defect. it got forwarded to various people in Hiper's corporate structure, until today when I recieved this:

If you can send me your address i will get these cables sent out to you ,
As a gesture of good will we wont charge, but unfortunatly they will be sent
from the UK so it may take a few days to reach you

HOLY MOLY!!! No charge for like $20-40 in wires plus free shipping.....Thats almost like winning the lottery, but better, as I can now have 4HDD's!!!

I just thought i'd share, as you dont see too many companies that would do something like that. It goes a long way to show how far they will go to please a customer. Needless to say I highly recommend them now!!!

Hell, they charge like $110 for a crappy power supply, the cables should be free!

J/K, hipers are ok for an everyday mainstream rig. My Ultra X2 UV looks cooler though :p

Nice to know about the customer service though thats a plus

Up and coming companies trying to gain a foothold in the market will do things like this...remember when Newegg was clawing their way to the top based on things like this? Yeah...it's a faded memory with me also. :p

Oh I know. But thats all these small companies have.......their rep, and its not common to see service like that.

My Hiper has worked flawless less my issues I caused. Its got more than enough power for my needs, so cool........

Hiper PSU's are actually pretty awesome for 99 bux.. They get rated very high on various overclocker's websites if you do a google search. The cables are pretty high quality, the connectors are awesome, it looks hawt, runs silent, and provides 630w of peak power, 580w stable. The amp ratings are strong on it too. My brother is running it in his AM2 rig right now, and its solid. Oh, and the box it comes in is totally worth it. :p You can use it as a modder's toolbox afterwards. It fits a dremel, and plenty of room to spare for tons of other stuff.

EXACTLY!!!! The box alone is worth it. I got 2 GPU's, a dremmal, and various wires in there. Its keeping all the crap I'd usually have scattered around in one place. I read a lot of reviews on it before I bought, and its held up nicely. Very good stuff for $100.

Cool stuff, but how did you figure it to be 20-40 dollars worth of wiring? The wiring in a psu is cheap even in a quality psu. The expensive part is the box.

That aint no cheap connector on there. Its gotta cost them a buck or 2 plus wire, and loon, plus labor to assimble it....i say $5 a wire plus shipping from uk to us......Its gotta cost about $20-40 to do all that

Lets say theres' 5 bucks worth of wires in all of those wires. Sounds about right. Each connector that goes into the power supply usually goes for 2 bucks, x 8. Don't forget that hiper buys them in bulk, so lets say a buck each. Add some minor costs, and that's about 15 bucks.

It's really an Andyson 550w. Not 580w. Just marketting hype.

It should be same interior as http://www.jonnyguru.com/PSU/Turbine550/Turbine550.html unit, with minor changes (like the fan grilles, mesh covering, connectors, etc)

How did you get the 630w peak power?

Don't forget that, on the molex side, there's two grounds. On the power supply side, there's one ground. This isn't a good idea. You shouldn't have two grounds splitting into one.

580w continuous power, 630 peak. It says right on the psu, and look in all the reviews of it on different websites. Its a solid psu for the price.

For the ground, thats not a big deal. The grounds all terminate to the same place anyway at the end of the line, so it doesn't matter if two grounds go to one, they will anyhow. They also aren't carrying a huge load because the devices are using the juice from the 3.3v, 5v, and 12v lines.

It says it right on the label.

And the Aspire Beast say 680W right on the label.

Tell you what... open it up and you'll see AD-550 right on the PCB. It can't do 580W sustained.

And if the split in the wire was inside the PSU and not on the outside end of the modular connector, then you'd have a valid point.

You don't really have any loss of power between the PSU's mainboard and the modular interface. Even if all of the modular connectors are soldered to a single wire.

But the split is on the cable where you're already losing more than 1% of your voltage.

And stating that you're also using the 3.3V, 5V, etc. doesn't prove any point. They ALL have loads on them, sure. But the one with the most load on it in a modern PC is the 12V.

wow, did I miss something??? All I know is it was cheap, it does a remarkable job of powering all my rig and devices, and the cust service is above average by a good margin.

Well, it IS cheap (reletivly speaking), but there's better for the money. Just look at that Silverstone ST56ZF. It's about the same price, and a hell of a lot more power. Customer service is great, I agree, and good customer service is a good thing.

Suit yourself.
