Hiper 580W

Probably just beating a dead horse, but I ran a search on this within the main PSU thread itself, and also within this entire forum, and looking through a few of the results, I found nothing particularly useful, so I'll just try to make this short and sweet:

I'm building a new computer.

X2 3800+
Asus A8N nForce 4
6600GT
1-2GBs of RAM (probably Corsair)

and a RAID-0 setup. That's all the big stuff.

So, I'm looking at the Hiper... and it looks sexy and stuff... but can it power the dual core? Should I trust it?

Besides the processor, there won't be a lot of heavy-drawing stuff going in here. Video card is a humble little 6600GT, will be building a new computer with a better one once I get on active duty... so yeah, the dual core is the big thing I'm worried about. Yes, no, maybe so?

I almost got one. The general consensus seems to be that quality control is low. The power supplies seem to be inconsistent. Some users have problems and some do not. I decided the risk was not worth the good looks of the unit. I think I will get a OCZ Powerstream 520watt sli unit instead. It is a safe pick.

I have owned mine for about 4 months and its still working like a champ. Stable rails, quiet, and looks good. I got it for $80, $130 +s/h is just way too much imo.

i have the same OCZ psu and its very nice. ITE reports it at 11.96v on the 12v rail but who trusts programs these days? its pretty damn quiet but the only thing i dont like is that it is a blue LED fan and everything else in my case has red LED's
u wont go wrong with this psu, especially for the stuff ur running

Andyson seems to be suffering the same problem Youngyear did. They can make a good product, but the facility can only produce so many units. A relatively new company having to suddenly crank out units for Hiper, Aerocool and Sunbeam is quite a feat since all three brands are very popular. I have an Aerocool modular and it's fan-fucking-tastic. But I have an X-Connect that's fantastic too and we all know what happened there. Eventually, QC has to be sacraficed to satisfy volume.

I hope things turn around for them. I think Andyson makes a great product, so hopefully
they can take all of their new found Yen and move or enlarge the facility. If they don't, those companies that are using them now that want to maintain their own reputation may bail on them and find someone else to build their power supplies.

This is the best modular I have ever seen! (it comes in different colors too).


I'm still going with a PC P&C in my new machine though. I will just have them customize it and only put cables I need on it.

Yeah.. PCP&C bogus propaganda convinces a lot of people.

I think it's funny that on one hand they can be incredibly honest and do things like rate their PSU's at 40C instead of 25C and then dismiss modular as problematic even though every power supply is essentially "modular" at the end it plugs into a peripheral or motherboard PCB and PCP&C is one of the few companies that uses a MODULAR connector to plug the ATX cable into the PSU's PCB!
