Highest 3dmark03 for a 6800GT?

On another forum I frequent some guy was claiming a score of around 17,200 in 3dmark03 on a system with the following specs:

2.8 P4
6800GT
1GB of PC333

Naturally I called bullshit, but he's pretty adamant about it. Is this even possible?

He produced the score in the 3dmark03 box, but those are easily photoshopped. He says he has custom drivers and junk.

Normally I wouldn't care about something like this, but he's advising someone on buying a card and I don't like people being deceived. I don't want this guy to go out and spend a bunch of money on a card only to find that he's getting around 5,000 points less than what this guy claims. The 6800 GT is no doubt a great card and I even recommended it to him, but I don't want him tp be under the impression he's getting something he isn't.

Tell him to provide the link to the comparison benchmark on futuremarks' site.

Buying a video card based on 3DMark results is about as smart as buying a used car from some guy in an alley. Buy it based on game performance!

Oh yeah that score is bullshit, just got mine and oc'd it to 431/1100 and pulled a 12277.... :D. But damn I'm happy

Where is Mentok, the Keeper Of The Holy 3DMark Lists when you need him? :D

I only have one list and it is for 3DMark05.

And I agree with you guys, it seems like BS.

Even though I don't require any hard proof when people submit scores for 3DMark05,
I do make sure that the scores are somewhat reasonable considering the card type and the overclock.

Oh I just wanted to mention right quick, that he claims this is all at stock settings, the P4 and the GT. He doesn't believe in overclocking. In fact, at the moment he's calling me a cheap loser because I bought a "shit" card and opened up "dirty" pipes on it. I said my score of 11,000 was getting close to GT scores (got lucky with the 16 pipes) and he said I was full of shit because his card scores 17,000 in 3dmark03.

The guy is full of it...

Some people run modded drivers and stuff to lower the image quality to the point that their graphics look like friggan PONG... LOL

They get these crazy high scores with unstable rigs that have image quality that resembles a Lite-Brite and they think it means something...

Actuallly i say your smart and he's a dumb rich looser who probably ahs no idea of how to build a computer and he ahd best buy put the card in for hima nd they saw how stupid he was so they charged him $600 installation, $100 to look everything over, and $60 in tax, $200 in a tip, and $1 for paper towels from sweating while installing.

$10 bucks says that he is getting 17 grand in 3Dmark01 :)

That was my thought... Which is really not that impressive as most of us were getting 17k in 3Dmark2001SE about 2 freakin years ago... hehehe

Please, divulge the name and location of this person so that we may all go to him and see how his stock GT card is 40% faster than the rest of the world's supply...

Actually, with that setup, I am betting that he isn't beating 17k in 3DMark2001SE if he is running stock...

A 2.8Ghz P4 running single channel DDR333 is gonna limit his 3Dmark2001SE score to like 16k I am betting.

FOr 3Dmark2005, I bet he has trouble breaking 10,000 points. Please, I would love to go to that forum and read this dudes' BS... LOL

Checking the Futuremark ORB, there are no P4 2.8Ghz systems running GT's that even come close to hitting 13k, let alone breaking 17k. And the ones that got over 12k, were mostly running Ultra speeds or faster, not stock.

If he was rich and l33t he would not be running a stock Dell with an older 533fsb Northwood and single channel DDR333... hehe

Yeah, that's what I think he does. He said he has a "special" way of running it and has "special" drivers just for 3dmark03. I told him real world performance for that card is in the 11, to 13,000 range and that he'd have trouble even breaking 12,000 with his setup under normal conditions.

Here's the first thread: http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum17/HTML/005446.html

And the second: http://www.totse.com/bbs/Forum17/HTML/005460.html

I would go there and post, but their forum is the worst I have seen. It performs like it is on 56k dial up or something... LOL

I have been trying to register for like 10 minutes...

I finally got registered and now I will have to wait a week for them to send me my password... LOL

This is rediculous... I am still waiting for a password... That has to be the slowest forum I have seen since the late 1990's... LOL

Bah...I have now lost interest in putting that dink in his place... I have no patience for forums that are too cheap to upgrade to something from this century... LOL

See, now my curiosity is getting the better of me... I am trying to have them resend the password and it can't even do that... That forum has to be the worst forum ever, all kidding aside.

Is it hosted at a real site, or does someone have a hime PC set up as a web-server? I have been on forums like that and when the traffic gets high, they simply cannot keep up...

I don't know. It can be pretty slow, but it's usually pretty fast for me.

It is a very big forum. There's like 150,000 topics going at the moment on the whole site and I don't believe the place has upgraded in a few years

That's their problem. Most forums delete old threads and topics once they have not been posted in for a month. That keeps the database manageable...

Right now, it performs like it is running on a C64 with a Volks 1200bps modem ... LOL

Besides, that TRU guy does not appear to be a member there anymore...

Nah, he is. There's a problem that if you have certain symbols in your name, such as his ":" than it says you're no longer a registered user.

Oh and sorry, I meant 150,000 posts. Whoops. In Spurious, the largest section of the forums, they only go back to the 26th of last month. They still have 42 pages of topics though. Some people literally sit on that site for hours, refreshing constantly. It's all they do for entertainment. It's fun posting and conversing with people and all, but some people go a little overboard there.

Hey, do me a favor and copy and paste this reply to him... :)

"Tru,

Your scores are bullshit. If, and that is a very big IF, you actually get 17000+ in 3Dmark05, it is by cheating or running it in a lower rez.

You run your system in such a configuration makes your score meaningless. Running a machine with modded drivers that lower image quality, is a big no-no and that is why you won't upload your scores. A score only has meaning in context. Running drivers that lower your image quality in order to make less work for the card is a noob's trick. At that point, you are no longer running the same test that we are, so your score doesn't count. I could configure this system to break 20,000 points, but if it reduces my image quality to that of PONG, what good is it?

Basically, you entered into a 1/4 mile race and shortened the track to 1/8 mile, and then brag that your "score" is faster? LOL

You are running a "benchmark system with custom drivers, custom processes and dedicated processing power"?

Good, more evidence that your score is meaningless. You run a synthetic benchmark, which is hardly relevant to real-world gaming performance in the first place, and then you compound the issue by running it in an environent unlike anything anyone would run a PC like in real life? !!!!! please...

That's like claiming that your 4 cylinder engine cranks out 400HP, but it only does it when taken out of the car, running in a lab using fuels and gas mixes not commonly found in the atmosphere or market. Sure, for 30 seconds under some really strange and exotic circumstances, it might do that... But put that motor back into your Honda Civic(Dell) and run it on the road with commercially available gasoline and it is still a 140HP econobox.

Second, you try to pretend that you are rich and that everyone who bought lesser cards are poor? Hahaha!

Dude, wake up. Myself and others paid more in taxes last year than you probably grossed, so let's not try to pretend we are Bill Gates, ok? People have different income levels and different priorities, and so dogging him for getting a 6800 and overclocking it is pretty petty of you, considering your outdated economy PC(Dell) .

So bragging about being l33t on the internet is kinda hard to swallow, especially when you are running a 16 month old Dell, and you have to cheat to get decent benchmark scores... hahaha

You have an moderately outdated machine running a 6800GT. Not a bad gaming rig, but clearly middle of the road by today's standards. The 6800GT, it's a good card, I have one, and so does everyone else and their brother.

It is hardly a status symbol when anyone can pick one up from Fry's for $329... I routinely spend more than that on dining out, so it is hardly a stretch for most gamers to afford.

The highest score for a 2.8Ghz P4(You probably don't even have an HT on that 533fsb chip, do you?) and a 6800GT is 12,500, and that was with the card heavily overclocked.

Your score, is not legit and we both know it, and so does anyone else reading this thread. I suggest you find a new way to try and increase that ePenis, because so far, you are just another wannabe..."

Also, put these two posts of his into one reply... He basically shoots down his own scores by doing exactly what he rails against... What a dumbass! LOL

He is against overclocking because it is taking a slower card and running it faster to compete with the higher end cards... But then he admits to buying a GT and then doing far more tweaking and modding than what a simple overclocker does, to get his GT to compete with faster Ultra cards...

The difference is that the overclocked card retains the better image quality, while his rig loses image quality to get frame rates...

Just read his two posts back to back and see the irony...

Actually, you're right. An X800XT under the same setup I've got, would not score that. It would score higher.

I've got a special setup just for benchmarking, actually. Custom drivers, custom process configuration, and dedicated processing power. Squeezes every last possible frame out.

Cmon, you should know all about unlocking dirty pipelines, overclocking, and memory configurations.

:tru: posted 01-31-2005 17:00

Hahaha, you guys remind me of my friends. The ones that are too poor to buy *real* video cards, so they buy the cheapshit versions and claim theyre better.

"I just got a 9800xt."
"Oh did you?"
"Well, I got a 9800se, flashed it to unlock the pipelines, and then overclocked it, so it's basically a 9800xt"
"Dumbass."

If you were overclocking for performance, you'd have a 6800Ultra, and be cranking it as fast as it would go. All you're doing is trying to make up for the fact that you dont have a *real* card like you'd want and you're going to try and compensate for it by overclocking your piece of shit.

It's like the kids with their hondas. They wish they had fast cars, so instead, they try and tweak the shit out of it, hoping that maybe it can compete with a *real* car.

maybe he ment 3dmark01.
i get 22.000 score with mt gt card in 3dmark 01

Nope, he claims it is in 03, and his screen cap says 03.

He either ran it at low rez, or he has some really goofy benchmarking mode that lowers image quality and runs it in a non-realistic environment... basically, exploits and hacks...

His score is bogus and he knows it.

I recently read a very interesting article about available hacks for nearly every GPU and CPU benchmark out there. IIRC, its a sticky over at extremesystems.org in the benchmarking section.

Anyhow, its been awhile, and I don't remember exactly how the author said one could hack 3DMark'03, but this is very likely what this dude is doing. He pretty much flat out tells you when he says 'special' drivers are needed to get that score. There's lots of ways to fool vid card tests - among them slowing down the system clock so that the benchmark program will think you're getting higher FPS than you really are (and would thus report a higher score).

Don't waste your time with this idiot. He's likely a cheat. Without overclocking that 2.8 he's CPU limited on all the stuff he plays anyways...

Edit: I know it might not be perfectly legal, but this is the thread link I was talking about. A must-read for anyone who benchmarks and compares to others over the net.

I know that he did build the PC as he posted pics of it a while back. I'll post your reply in a sec but I'll lte him know there's no way you could have known that.

He's always been a moron though. He once criticized me for building my machine with aa AMD 64 3200+ because it doesn't have hyperthreading so I can't run a bunch of programs at once  . He ended up talking a guy into purchasing a P4 for a system he was mainly building for games just because he uses one.

This guy must have been seperated at birth from that doofus "Maleficarus"... I am still waiting for my damned password...

All he has is a screencap of the score?

Ask him to publish the score, as well as to screen the "details", not just the score screen.

But he won't do that, because he cheated. This Maleficarus person I mentioned does the same thing... He runs a 1024x768 benchmark at 800x600 and then claims it is the higher rez score... When you ask him to upload and publish the results so that we can look at them, he comes up with 101 excuses as to why he can't or won't...

For all his bluster, Tru is more of a Noob than the guys he is berating...

bahahaha, and when i upraded i was proud of my score getting close of the 6k :O it serves me well in the games i play so i wont cry.
about that dude : its time to call up my GGNOREKTHXBAISTFUNOOBCYA
