finally grew an pair an poped lid of my charished CAB1E 144 to see if i could sqeeze another 50mhz out of her - poor girl

the ihs removal went fine but my temps went up maybe 3-5C for sure (speedfan)

on both temp2 and core

i remounted it twice and both times the contact was good according to the TIM footprint

i've been using PC-ICE for the last 3-4 months and my T line tube had some build up in it (like it just dried out or something) and i think it finally made it's way down into the loop so maybe that's the problem

switchen out my TDX for MP-05 LE soon anyway :D

just wondering if anybody else had their temps go up as a result of IHS removal

You probably don't have enough mounting pressure... The ZIF socket edge might be in the way...

Can you check it?

zif is ?

it's pretty tight - as tight as i'm comfortable with anyway

and both times i checked it the TIM had been spread correctly and the footprint made the full rectangle

Sorry :p

The ZIF socket (Zero Insertion Force) is the socket that holds the CPU in... The little bit that the lever attaches to (called the CAM) sometimes gets under the waterblock of a delidded CPU... Messing with temps.

SEEMS TO BE BETTER NOW FOR WHATEVER REASON

BEFORE - AMBIENT = 81.3 (FREAKIN HOT IN MY ROOM)

AFTER - AMBIENT = 80.8 (GOD IT'S STILL HOT IN HERE ... WTF TURN UP THE AIR)

Damn I wish I could get my opty over 2805mhz @ 1.525v , Ive gotten it higher windows stable, but not prime95 stable. I don't know if its a heat wall or it was a less than stellar stepping. I want to unlid my 148 once I can cover the cost of replacing it w/ a 165. Ive heard early weeks of the single core opteron had noticeably higher temps over there a64 counterparts due bad IHS contact to the core.

actually i usually run it at 1.44 but i upped to gen a little more heat for test - don't know why:D

i did not notice much change in temps when i de lidded my first 3800 x2

also for the guy talking about ZIF sockets and the CAM

the DD TDX is mounted with bolts and the OEM backplate with the retaining ring removed... you can put more force on the CPU than necessary with the mounting style and will easily accommodate the difference in thickness

yea there is plenty of tight on it lol

Are you able to use a 1 gallon jug of distilled water and use that as your res? See if temps drop then.
