Higher FSB, or higher core speed?

On my P4 3.4E Prescott, I can easily hit 4GHz with a 17x multiplier at a 236MHz FSB (specs in sig). I was wondering if at a lower multiplier of 14x and a higher FSB, if I would get better performance out of my chip. I've hit a 270MHz FSB stable which is 3.78GHz on the CPU.

My question is, would a lower FSB with a higher core speed be faster than a higher FSB with a lower core speed?

Well I personally am going for high speed and high FSB. But I would go for the higher FSB. I imagine that it would help more as it's a bottleneck of sorts. The EE processors show us that FSB does improve performance, all be it by a small margine.
 
I would go for the higher CPU clock with a presscott to help offset the extended pipeline. Couple that with the larger L2 cache and I would think the higher FSB would not be as fast as the much higher cpu clock you are reaching.

I'd agree. However, on i925XE based boards it is possible to have both. For example, I have a fairly decent FSB going and my CPU is still at stock voltages. My temps are good, and I think I can get more out of her.

Of course I'll keep on testing. But I think I can get more.
 
Drop the multi by one or two, then you can get a high FSB, but you still have a good high clockspeed. It just allows you to max out your FSB and RAM but still keep the high clockspeeds that make the Prescott.
