Higher FSB > faster RAM clock?

Peeps,

I got my Sempron rolling, and I can get to 2.4 3 or 4 different ways. Generally speaking:

Is a Htt speed of >300 better than a slower speed but with a closer ratio on the RAM divider? Im curious to know the net effect on one vs. the other. I can get my Chaintech to 312 or so Htt by setting the ram to 133, and I can also get the CPU to the same speed with it set to 166. Does the RAM being clocked closer to DDR 400 make up for the loss in htt (FSB) speed?

Are you saying that you can hit a certain speed with 312fsb AND with (I assume) a higher multiplier but lower fsb?

If the overall CPU speed is the same, then by all means, take the better RAM divider.

If you are talking about having the same CPU multipler in both cases, but a lower FSB and better RAM divider in one, then I am definitely leaning towards the higher FSB option.

Bench it yourself?

I thought someone might have run into this decision to be made before.

I'll bench it in 3dmark 03. I got 10,706 with it set up to use 166 Ram speed and a FSB of 262.

I'll edit this post to show what a higher FSB with a lower CPU multi does. Going to set it up and do the test now.

Edit: lowered multi to X8, ht to 3x, Ram to 133, increased the Htt to 300 from 262, and got a

10,906.

So it appears that it is a wash. FSB or Ram Timing, take your pick. Not much difference.
