High usage and high ready plus missing data

I've not seen this before so wanted to see what you guys thought of it.

I have a VM with high CPU % usage as well as high Ready time. Looking at the performance graph there is also a lot of missing data to top it off.

The VM is configured with 4vCPU.

I have found this KB article which referrers to the missing data, but I'm not sure about how to correct high % usage and ready time.

High ready time usually means that the hosts are overloaded meaning your host cannot support the number of VMs on it. It can also mean that you are excessively using SMP which means that you are assigning multiple vCPUs on your VMs. Normally you do not need to assign more than 1 vCPU for a VM unless it is running an application that can actually benefit from more than 1 such as SQL.
 
Do you have any other VMs running on the same host as the vCenter Server? What kind of resources do you have on that host?
 
The underlining issue looks to be a new Avamar backup that has just recently started and allowed to run anytime it wants. It creates a snapshot of every VM, backups that file, then removes the snapshot. Being vCenter has a few more things to do than just snapshots it's caused the CPU usage to spike.

Prior to this new backup vCenter ran at 50% or lower CPU usage. The new backup plan has been suspended. :)
