wondering whats up with the temps im getting.
These are during and about 30 minutes into the crysis 2 mp demo

Clocks? And what are they normally, like with other apps? Though by your vcore, it really shouldn't be that high.
 
Nothing too extreme there. I assume you have stock CPU cooler?

If you are concerned, work on your case airflow.
 
stock temps on everything, video card has a stock oc 763mhz core.

didnt expect temps that high even with stock cooling.
Whats the safe max for the cpu? went up to 90 on 1 core >_<
 
The Tj maximum (shutdown) for the i7 is 100 I believe.

The demo is probably running eight threads; check task manager.

Disable hyperthreading or reseat CPU cooler with new TIM or upgrade CPU cooler if you have long-term usage concerns.
 
That seems normal for stock cooler. The Lynnfield quads ran hot, and I remember hearing how some CPUs wouldn't even Turbo properly because the stock cooler wasn't enough for the load. But a good way to reduce temps is to undervolt the CPU or disable hyperthreading. Or you could just get a better cooler.
 
seems like a new cooler is the best option!

would getting one of those cheap 80$ corsair water cooling setups be worth it over a similarly priced heatsink/fan setup? think its the h50
 
for reference here are idle temps, huge difference.
my idle temps are always great but ive noticed they get real high under stress!

is the hardware monitor im using just as accurate as any other temp monitor?
 
Idle temps are good because of downclocking and power gating - basically the processor shuts off unnecessary parts of the processor to keep it cool and quiet and low-power. Obviously if it's on load, then everything will be turned on and working at full speed. And a Nehalem chip fully turned on and working at full speed produces a lot of heat. Which is why idle temperatures don't really mean anything.
 
If you load all eight threads frequently, you may want to install an inexpensive but efficient cooler (e.g.Hyper 212 Plus).
