Well, I moved everything out of a LianLi PCv1200 and into this LianLi PC60Plus2.
I also went from water cooling to air, because of space requirements. Anyhow, I've been having some high temps with the setup, and I'm curious if it's just going to be a hot system, or if I'm doing something wrong.

Using a Ninja with AS5, and have switched a few fans, replaced a few fans, and turned a few fans around, and all the results seemed to be pretty similar. Tell me what you think. It idles at about 40C and peaks at 53C stock, right now I'm testing an OC to 2.5ghz and it idles about 43C and gets up to 60C. Something doesn't seem quite right.

Good news, it does 8359 3dmark06.
SM2.0: 3912
HDR/SM3.0: 3842
CPU Score: 1879

Also 12714 3dmark05.
Yay?

Your system looks kinda cramped. It also could be the summer heat. I use to idle around 35 but summer temps made it go up 10c's. Now i idle around 45c's/ :(

Could be that Quad setup huh? You got a lot of hardware in that case. To decrease your CPU temp, have you tried taking off the "lid" or IHS? Seems to be the extreme procedure to reduce temps nowadays. Also, make sure you don't have too much thermal paste. I don't mean to make you sound noobish, but most people put way too much on there. All you need is enough to fill in the microcracks in the core and heatsink.

Your main prob is Quad Sli . Thats a lotta heat for a small case.

One thing you can do is ditch all those cheap ass fans ( all of them ) and throw 80mm ( 75CFM ) and 120mm ( 92 CFM ) TT Smart fans in thier place. You'll get 2x the airflow or more doing that. If heat is still an issue you won't like this. But cut a hole in the top of your case and put an 80mm or 120mm fan in the top to get that heat out.

Its gonna be loud but my case dropped 4*C when I went from standard 30CFM 80mm fans to 3 TT 80mm 75CFM Smart fans. And my CPU dropped 1*C.

Replacing every fan in your case with a TT Smart fan should drop your temps a lot. Plus they look better : )

Just thought about something...try turning that fan around that is shrouding your GPU's (If you leave your side panel off). If it is pushing air onto them, then the hot air would be going straight up to your CPU, then out the back.

I guess the 1C vs the noise isn't worth it to me. I have a few Scythe SFlex fans as well. I'll try that later.

Also this room isn't cooled very well. (I have a ceiling fan, a small 8" fan, and a 20" fan going just to keep it acceptable.)

Thanks for the advice.

thats amazing hardware!

but yeah ur temp problems is probably just cramp interior and summer temps. my cramped lanboy absolutely cooks around this time of year

a thought that I had was your exhaust fan.

if it's not pulling as much as your ninja is pushing, you might be getting some backlogged warm air btwn the CPU heatsink and the exhaust fan.

and i would agree with turning your VGA fan into an exhaust fan. This would help increase negative pressure in the case and further help in preventing backlogged air.

i think 'backlogged' is the right word... ???

I also have a RaidMax Horizon case. So the fans did help but not as much as they'd help a smaller case. My case is pretty decenty sized. Its no AeroCool Mastige but the bigger the case the less impact fans will have. Heat doesn't build up in my PC as much. Plus I still have a weak 80mm fan in the front so I have only like 100CFM of air coming in total but like 180CFM going out.

The VGA fan is already exhaust, and it's quite warm too. The PSU is a 68cfm if I recall correctly, and I'm about to replace the 80mm LianLi fans (there is already a top exhaust) with Arctic Cooling "AC3" fans: 1900rpm 32cfm

I have an assortment of 120mm's, including the Scythe that came with the Ninja; AD1212DS-A73GL(6TCL3): 1200rpm 46cfm
The 2 Lian Li LI121225BL-4: couldn't find the rpm/cfm ratings.
3 Scythe S-Flex SFF21E: 1200rpm 49cfm
And an Arctic Cooling AF12025: 1500rpm 56cfm

I suppose the AF12025 for the main intake, and then the SFF21E as the VGA Exhaust and the CPU cooler.

looks like you've got two optical drives...
are the two top bays empty?

if so, I'd suggest moving the optical drives to the top and using the two lower 5.25 bays as an intake. (using a 2-bay HD cooler that usually comes with an 80mm fan).

that would basically create a duct to your cooler. seems like a fairly straight shot too.

There are a few random brands that have 80mm HD coolers / intake and I know lian-li has their own versions but it may be a little pricier...

btw... how many drives do you have in the lower drive cage (behind the intake fan)

the number of drives my affect the intake by blocking it.

great for the HD's but prolly not so good for internal case temps...

actually - it looks ike you only have one.

I'm guessing that as soon as the air passes the drive cage, it goes towards your four cards and then out the exhaust fan.

there's not much room for air to pass the drive cage and move up towards your cpu cooler

(those look like longer-than-average video cards no?)

so yea - I'd go with a double 5.25" bay 80mm intake.

There are three drives in the lower cage, and the one in the upper. Just one optical, and then the Audigy front panel below it.

lol - sorry to keep ranting...

also - if you move your HD from the left of the drive cage (if you're looking from the front of the case) to the right hand side, there's more chance of air floating up to your cpu cooler through the left-hand side of the case.

the way it is right now, it's almost a perfect channel to go straight to your vid cards and get trapped under them.

if you move your HD to the other side, at least air has the abiltiy to rise on the side of the vid cards...

ok. that's it.

oh - I wrote ^^^that post before reading this.

so yea - your HD's are definitely blocking intake which is not bad because you have happy hard drives but the case temps will suffer...

2x5.25 bay 80mm intake fan ftw.

Ended up lapping the Ninja while I was at it. Maybe later this week I'll get courageous and do the 4400 too. It is sitting at 59C right now running two instances of Prime95 while running rthdribl at the same time. 2.5ghz isn't so bad. On water it was stable at 2.6, so not a big deal really.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
