High Temps in Nvidia Control Panel using 71.84

Just redid my system, fresh XP install all latest drivers including the 71.84 official.

Its giving a 70 degree core temp, rebooted into another XP partition (66.93 drivers) 59 degrees.

What gives?

Just to add this is a stock 6800GT at idle.

Ok its an official issue, people are getting a 10 degree increase in temperature so i wont worry about it for now.
 
yeah im also getting an increse, used to be 50-55 idle now its 60 idle.
 
If you have coolbits loaded, turn your Standard (2D) clock frequency above 400 and you will see your temperature return to something resembling what you had prior.
 
same issue here, now reports 68 degree c. When i do auto detect i still get the same overclocks as normal tho, so im not worried about it. Nvidia probably put a 10 degree shield up, and made it report 10 degree's higher then it should, that way it will hit the warning temp faster (and before too much damage) then it would have before. Just a thought, cant see any other reasoning behind it.

What makes you think their card could handle 400+? Mine does the same thing, and it's stable up until 385.

No, it was not intentional.

The bug is listed under the Release notes for the 71.84 drivers. Direct link (PDF, 1 meg large).

Specifically mentioned in the 'Known Issues',
GeForce 6800: The ʹTemperature Settingsʹ in the Display Properties
reports an approximately 20% higher temperature than with the
previous driver version.
This issue will be fixed in the next driver release.

i had the same problems, so i overclocked the core to 401 and temps dropped from 68-69 to 56-57 idle.
 
OK did a cold boot 60C, previously 50C. The card feels the same definetly not 10C hotter.
 
If you guys would read the damn driver release notes, Nvidia knows there is a BUG which reports temps 20% higher than normal.

Such hostility, IM sure i speak for everyone when I say, some of us are too damn lazy to read... Hell its a chore just to read your response back to this post, and to proof read this small paragraph as well...

I am an Accountant and as such Ineed to be able to access information at any time. I therefore keep two identical discs running with identical information as well as several backups.

I have updated my video drivers to 74.84 on the one didk , but saw this forum before doing the same to the other disk. Both temperatures are identical at 49c idle with a 6800GT card.
