I recently got a CNPS7000AlCu, and my idle temps are in the 120's and my load temps are in the 150's, is this normal?
 
prescotts run hot, but not that hot

you did remember to apply thermal paste didn't you?

It wouldn't surprise me if your temp reading was off, because I doubt your proc would still be alive if its hitting 150

edit: is that farenheit or celcius?
 
thats F. i cleaned the heatshield of the proc with rubbing alcohol and the base of the 7000, put down some AS5, and let her rip, Folding 100% at 150F, at least thats what Abit EQ says
 
After folding all night, its 130F Idle and 160F Under load... is this normal? The voltage going to the cpu is 1.38
 
prettyscots run hot. It would be abnormal if you get low temps.

As long as your system is stable, don't worry about it.

The CPU is designed to withstand from heat at stockie speed....

if you feel it's not cool enough and you want to oc, i say get a DIY phase change. Liquid temp at -30C will keep it cool... and a easy stable 4.3ghz+.
 
160F is 71C.

That is quite hot. The thermal limit is 80C before damage, but newer Prescotts throttle at 66C so if you are actually hitting that temperature, your CPU is slowing down to prevent damage and you are not getting full performance.

Get throttle watch http://www.techspot.com/download400.html and see if you are throttling (a bad thing if you are)

been running folding to get the load temp up with throttle watch up, and its hitting 71c and no throttling
 
If this is about the CPU in your sig... you have a 2.8 running at 3.5 with aircooling, and erm... you're surprised the temperatures are rather high?
To which I would say: what did you expect?

well, my buddy with a 3.0E at 3.7 is running alot cooler, its also a prescott. same cooling also

Yea so?
First of all he has a 3.0, which is supposed to be able to run at higher speeds than a 2.8 anyway... Secondly he may have had more luck than you had, and happens to have a CPU out of a more pure piece of silicon in the wafer.
Overclocking is a lottery, there are no guarantees.
 
hes running the chip on a IC7G, not sure as to the voltage, same cooling also
 
try reducing your voltage.

stock voltage (1.4v) my prescot runs 70C

reduced voltage (1.325v) it runs 60C

this is air cooled. the details are in my sig

id be willing to bet your board is reporting wrong. if it is hitting "71c" and not throttling, then the chip isnt actually that hot becuse if it was, it would be throttling.
 
My 2.8 will get to 58C at full load. It is clocked at 3.56GHz. It is at stock voltage.
 
I reduced mine to stock voltage, and it runs alot cooler, 10 degrees cooler :D

if you explain to your girl about how the prescott overheats you have problems, nuff said
 
Yaaaa well when thermal throttling goes bad.... houses burn down, just remember this and safe computing. ;)
