One company has a Radeon 6850 that has the same specifications as AMD's reference design yet lacks any 6-pin power connectors; it draws all the power it needs from the PCIe bus. I know I'm being paranoid, but does this design increase the chances of the 24-pin ATX power connector having a meltdown? I'm referring to the issue where two pins on the connector would overheat and cause the surrounding plastic to melt because of too much power draw (it seems to usually happen on overclocked and/or SLI/CrossFire setups).
