High performance WD drives worth it?

I've decided on 2 WD WD3200SD drives for storage and wanted a third for apps and my OS. The older raptors are small and the new one is very expensive for the provided space. Are these raptor drives really that much faster than their "generic" 8mb or 16mg SATA counterparts? For another 150 more dollars, the same price as the 74 gig raptor, I could just get a thrid 320 gig WD and partion/dynamic disc it for OS, apps and storage purposes. Is that a good idea? Or should I spend the extra cash for the raptors.

I DO NOT game, and I don't plan on it. I'd rather have more space than speed, but if the raptors will perform much faster than a non-raptor WD drive, then I'd spring for it.
 
I'd go with some of the 16MB cache drives over the Raptors. I think the 250GB 16MB cache caviar is a good deal. There isn't a big performance difference, and the 16MB caviar's have a good price per gig.
 
Hmmmmm, ok. Maybe I should just get 3 WD4000YR drives and reduce myself to integrated graphics, seeing as I don't play games.
 
i have the 250gig SATA2 16mb cache and its a great drive, im gonna grab the 320gig version for another storage drive ina bit.

Ok, great, the 400 gig ones are supposted to be even faster, so I think I will be perfectly fine with 2 or 3 of them.
