Hi im trying to build a high end performance pc for gaming and this is what i got so far for my performance pieces

-Rosewill TU-155 Black Computer Case With Side Panel Window
-GIGABYTE GA-K8N Pro-SLI ATX AMD Motherboard
-eVGA Geforce 7800GTX 256-P2-N525-AX Video Card
-AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
-2gb of Kingston RAM
-Sony DVD/CDRW drive
-180 GB HDD

now i need to know what kind of power supply i should go with. I was thinking of going with a 550w but im not sure if thatll be enough. Also im gonna play it out with the cooling through fans. If that doenst work out too well ill go with the liquid cooling. Can someone help me with what power supply i should go with?

There are a number of possibilities. What is your price range?

trying to stay under 100....but over 100 wont be too bad if its absolutely needed.

Forgive me if im misinformed, but i got the impression that the type of system im building requires over 600W to function correctly. Can anyone explain why im wrong or not wrong...

You're wrong...

Well... you'd be right if there were a plethora of 600W power supplies on the market with 50A on the 5V rail and you didn't have the wherewithall to ask around... but truth be told, you could do just fine with a good 400W with 28A on the 12V rail(s.)

Get a 24-pin, single 12V rail PSU like the Vantec ION 460W (30A on 12V!!!). $57.99 @ SVC.com (the egg is selling it for $68).

I agree 100%, it is the +12V amperage & quality that count, not some BS wattage rating! ;)
