Is it just me or are the Flash ads at the top causing abnormal CPU usage? I'm getting an entire core being used up just from the Flash ad.

Sounds like you just applied the latest update to firefox, I've seen a few posts about this.
I cant help much but thought this might be useful.

I haven't updated Firefox and I'm getting the same thing, 20%-35% with Firefox as the only thing running with just the one tab open.

According to my boss (who does some Flash development) it would seem the particles in the advertisements are to blame for higher CPU usage in Flash animations.

I am not seeing any abnormal flash / CPU issues. Might help if you pointed out which add exactly, a few rotate.

The snow on the end of one will push one of my cores to 12%.

With over ten tabs open I have been able to peg both of my cores at 100%. It isn't abnormal for me to leave 3-4 IE windows open with 3-10 tabs open in each (not all 3-4 IE windows are hardforum.)

Edit: There's something really wrong with the ad. When I went to end process on one window I left on at home with 9 tabs of hardforum open, it was taking up over a gig of memory. Classic infinite loop and memory leak behaviour?

Reported to Newegg, thanks for the specifics.

Im not sure if it is the newegg ads fault, because I didn't have a problem till I updated firefox, and after reading other posts on the web it seems that the .10 and .11 updates cause abnormally high cpu usage.

Pretty sure i've also been having problems with their ads, occasionally, for a long time now. Slow page loads + high cpu usage, both IE and firefox. It is a convenient way of clicking-thru to Newegg though :)

just a heads up

I have no problem. You know why? I use AdBlock = no ads = no slow-downs. ;)

Admin Edit: You actually need a ban block ;)

As of now with the current ad (Phenom ad) I'm getting normal CPU usage. I guess it was the holiday ad doing it.

Just to let you know, ad blocking is a permaban. No exceptions.

And there is already a thread on this topic.
