High cpu temps, replace case fans?

I'm getting my new system settled in and some have mentioned that my temps seem high. It's an AMD 3500+ winchester with a Zalman 7000al heatsink in a Coolermaster Praetorian case. My temps are 40-45C idle and 55C load, case ambient temps are 30-32C idle, 35-38C load. I'm wondering if upgrading the case fans to a higher cfm fan would make a noticeable difference, or is my only option a different heatsink/fan?
 
im assuming your not using thermal paste, since your temps are so high on ur cpu, though in all reality thats not that hot for an athlon 64.
get some artic silver5 and put it on ur chip, see if that helps
 
what cfm are your current fans? are they the stock pratetorian fans?

also, is there a lot of cable clutter in your case?
 
No cable clutter, and yes they are the stock coolermaster 26cfm fans. I'm thinking of replacing them with some 40cfm fans.

I used a blob of the thermal paste the Zalman came with, maybe I'll give Arctic Silver a try.
 
Just as an update, I popped the hsf off and noticed the thermal grease was only in a spot in the middle of the heatspreader. I went ahead and spread a thin layer over the entire surface of the spreader and bolted the hsf back down. It's been running Prime95 for an hour now and the cpu temp is sitting firm at 50C, so the reapply was good for 5C.
 
let that settle for a couple days, and it will go down another couple degrees.

Correct me if I'm wrong you said you applied a blob before, shouldnt it be the size of a grain of rice? :rolleyes: (thermal paste that is)

Yes, and by blob I meant a small blob the size of a grain of rice, and apparently that wasn't enough.
