ok i just installed a athlon 64 3200+ on a MSI K8N Neo and the temp monitor says its running at avg 62 deg C! now im using stock cooling which looks a LOT better than what came with the XP processors so i thought it should work. is it the stock cooling? are these average temps for the new processors or will the temp go down as the machine gets burned in more? or should i use a new cooler? thanks in advance.

Do a bunch of searching in these forums and in the MSI forums, this has been covered pretty extensively. Heres my personal experience though. The temp readouts are supposedly not working right on the K8N, however some have said playing with beta or the most recent BIOS has fixed it. I however have the most recent BIOS and nothing changed. Then I started using Cool N Quiet (BIOS setting that requires the specific windows power management choice "min management" to work). With Cool N Quiet it clocks your processor down under light loads and then I drop to the low 40's quite often. I have seen no performance difference at all and some have done benchmarks that have shown there is none. I have yet to find out though whether those that have updated their BIOS have simply turned on Cool N Quiet and not realized that is why they have lower temps, or if theirs was fixed and mine and my brothers still have the wrong temp reading. Either way, I have gone as high as 71C but still seemed to be cooled just fine (no reboots, games run fine, heatsink is pretty warm but not blistering). Even with an overclock to 2.4Ghz (I have a 3000+). So either they are still broken with the latest 1.2 BIOS or thats just the way they run and Cool N Quiet makes the difference. Anyone?

Edit: I'm using stock cooling and honestly I don't see a huge need to go to something else. I'm happy with the overclock and Cool N Quiet keeps my machine (oddly enough) cool and quiet. :)

Flash your BIOS to the latest version. If it's still showing high temps, what are your room temps and subsequent case temps? A hot room and poorly ventilated case will DRIVE your temps into the sky.

As for, my CPU rarely goes above 40 C, and my case is religiously around 34-37 C. All stock cooling, Antec Super Lanoby with 2 120mm fans.
