just moved from my old appartment into a new house and during the moving trip my tube amp didnt survive.

my setup before i moved was a martin lothan stylos hooked up to a pre amps and stuff that i got from hk.

i spent about 10 000 hk on my amps and about 3000usd on the speakers which i got online back in year 2000.

now since its been a long time. can anyone recomend me somthing better? im using this as hi-fi for listening with clasic songs and some of the newer chinese songs.

i also never used a sub with these speakers. any good sugestions would be helpfull.

max budget this time is no more then $8000 might go to 10000 if its realy well worth it.

to get a taste of what these lothans sound like. uh it kick my eshure e4c earphones which were about $3-400.

what do you think i can sell these speakers for?

How old are they? The crap shoot with high end audiophile type equipment is that only nut jobs like us, or people with more money than sense will buy probably buy them. If they have more money than sense you can just flash the tech specs and they should open their wallets. On the other hand someone that know about these things will probably want to audition them or they already know what they're looking for.

Anyhow, if you have that kind of money then I would seriously take a look at Rotel. They have some very good stereo receivers and amplifiers. They also make surround receivers as well. Since you have the cash then the only subwoofer I;d recommend is a Velodyne. Just go to their site and pick one according to room size. They have 8" all they way up to 18" and the bass is superb. Not boomy, no distortion, no fall out, just nice and clean.

Like you, I haven't done a lot of research on speakers in ages. Fronts are from 1984. However, I would look at the Audioholics forums and ask around I'm sure someone could give you an answer, and some second opinions to my advice.

i usually try to bargin them down all the way to say every penny i can.

i just moved and so i dont relli know any stores around here that does hi-fi.

2 front speakers would be ideal since im used to it.

my uncle just got a pair of b&w 800d but hes in another country so i dont get a taste of that brand.

is tube amps any good still? im kind of the more instimental type listener. so i like the warm feeling.

hey poly what model do you recemend for rotel? have you ever listen to them?

im likley going to order them from another country so no exchanges for me.

speakers and amp are at leat 8 years old now. and the martins are the electric speakers and not the wood type.
i got suckered into buying them since it was pretty new technology back then and it was pretty good.

i serched ebay but no one seems to sell them/

i also want to know which wires are good? is the pear cable any better then the high end monster cables?

Selecting speakers and all that goes with them is really subjective and coming from electrostatics may make other driver choices difficult. See if you can find an editor’s choice/ golden ear issue of the Absolute Sound to use as a guide. You should be able to make a short list of equipment to audition, within your price range, from their recommendations. What tube amp were you using?

A lot of people say that tubes still have a more warm tone and there are people that say that vinyl sounds better because it's recoded at 48kHz. It's all subjective.

I don't recall the models I've listened to but there is a shop that sells them here and I auditioned two. One home theater and one just stereo and both sounded great. I don't recall the speakers the were using. I wasn't shopping for a receiver at the time. I was there for cans.

As for wire. The benefit to Monster Cable is the fact that they use more strands. That being said you can get the exact same thing from Acoustic Research for a lot less. I would suggest some of their 14ga cable and binding post connectors. If you want anything beyond speaker cable then AR is still good but Mono Price is also great.

oh i just want to see if there are any better speakers that would proide a more sensational experience.

i have used crap computer speakers to z-5500 to e5c and non compared to stylos. but this speaker was a mid range for the company. jus seeing if i can get more bang for buck.
