Recently i've been trying to play Planetside, but it seems that my 512 megs of ram are not enough...It lags horribly...
I want to upgrade, but it seems there's so many innovative things going on that I want to wait a bit more before upgrading. I was wondering if anyone could give me some help on basically OCing my computer to run it smoother without having to buy anything :)

Here's my setup...
AthlonXP 2400+ @2000mHz 15x133.6
Asus A7n8X Deluxe
2x256 Corsair 3200 Cas : 2,3,2,5
Radeon 9700 Pro

so...basically if you guys could help :) What could I do to make it go faster!
I used CPU-Z to find this info, don't know how to check my video card...but I got it from OCSystem with supposedly "overclocked" timings...and a bigger heatsink.
Anyways...It seems that the general consensus is that 512 megs of ram can't handle it...any way to get around that bottleneck?

Thanks alot for your help / patience...

It runs, but if you know about the game...theres like 5-10 bases on each continent, and you have to load the whole continent. Each time I land on another base .... I framelag horribly, which I am assuming is because I only have 512 megs of ram... I framelag perhaps 10-20 seconds trying to load the outside of the base, and then 10 seconds whenever a new door opens and I have to load a section of the inside of the base. Basically anywhere that I havent been to...I framelag and then usually die while not being able to move :). Its really quite fustrating...
And then if I respawn at another base for a while, and go back to the base where I have been previously running through, it lags not as bad but pretty bad for a while. Mainly I Just can't do anything without running through the area like 2 times.

Sidenote : Anyone know what AGP APerature Size does in the Motherboard? I think its set at 512 megs in my BIOS...is that good?

And I suppose what I'm really trying to do is increase my FSB speed to run a bit faster...maybe ...if that does anything with my ram...

Also what could I use to check my CPU temp while in game? thanks!

Try to minimize the amount of applications running other than Planetside. IE p2p apps, taskbar things etc. Also, defrag your hard drive. Those two things might help you a bit. Are you sure it's not a problem with your Internet connection?

believe me overclocking wont help.

you just need 1gig+ to run ps decently.

really is the worst coded game ever.

I've never played the retail version of PlanetSide, only beta tested, but back then I could run it on this system (which at the time only had a 950 mhz Duron and 512 mb RAM).

Try updating any drivers (video, mobo, etc)

ask anyone who played both the beta and retail.

beta was goodness

and retail was like a version repackaged with loads of ass.

its not your system.
