Well for the last week and a half, I've been def*ckifying the network of a large non-profit.
A half dozen backdoors, multiple MitM ARP poisoning attacks internally, a world of fun....all on a /16 subnet with 65k possibilities for hiding....not including the WAN locations and VPNs.

After re-passwording everything and everyone, deploying static ARPs, SPI-capable firewalls and core routers, along with some new switching, I've got it under control....I think. ;)

This week it's a relatively mild re-engineering job on a 7-node WAN. New AD domain and all, with a core business-software change to keep it interesting. Fortunately pherret (relic junior for those who weren't around back in the day) is the engineer onsite. I can let him do most of it.

So that's my week....what are you all up to? ;)

So thats it? Thats like, what, an afternoon worth of work? :D

Maybe for you, but I'm old and slow. ;)

Amen Kendrak, I thought I knew computers pretty well, but I guess I was wrong:)

Nothing a little bit of mojo couldn't fix ;)

Grab a beer then build a extra quad to change your mind !

This one is a big enough problem that it's taking up one of my linux quads to run the sniffers...so I'm down a few thousand PPD until I get everything sorted out. <sigh>

While you were hard at work I was off on vacation hoping those new GPU clients wouldn't crash. I set them up and then just left. It's pretty amazing they are working as good as they are!

Next time I get stuck with networking issues I'll know who to ask, even if I won't understand what you say in reply :)

I didn't understand any of it.... but it all sounded really good:)

Anyhow, hope things settle down for you soon.

ya try plaing with a 64,000 computer AD domain :p

like 250+ active directory servers, 200~ sites each with 100mbit metro ethernet, all sorts of routing fun etc... thank god none of it except my site is my problem hehe...

Let's see, my week...

I supposedly said something at work that scared someone. I got suspended (with pay) for it. They don't have a real complaint against me especially since they can't come up with anything that I actually said. They said I have to go to a lunatic doctor or I'm fired. I went today and the lunatic doctor thinks the powers that be at my job are nothing but a bunch of idiots. They won't let me defend myself.

I did figure out who "reported" me. However, I'm not a danger to anyone else so I am not going to do anything. However, I'm highly pissed because they have basically called me a liar and say my reputation and past 7 year history at the place means nothing. Little do they know that calling me a liar is one of the worst things you can do to me other than threaten or harm my family.

I'm already thinking of the best way to fuck them over royally without doing anything wrong or dishonest. However, that's going to require finding another job with similar pay and benefits and those are thin on the ground in my area.

I think I need to start drinking again.

I spent the last week wondering where in the f* you were.

I feel your pain.
Daily.

Life was much improved when this region's carriers moved their data networks off of their telephony infrastructure and deployed layer 2 fiber, but now clients can f*ck-up their WANs at Gigabit speeds.

Joy...
