I think there is an MSI rep here somewhere, right?

I just wanted to know WHY the GPU rebate offers are limited to one product per household or address, when most of us use Crossfire and have at least two cards.

Or in my case, have children and upgrade them, too.

Bought THREE 6950 cards, and might only get 1 stinking rebate. Other GPU manufacturer offers the rebate for every item purchased; whether that be 1 or 10.....I mean who cares a sale is a sale.:mad:

Isn't anyone else aggrevated by this?

Anybody with Crossfire or more gets hosed, unless they're dishonest and uses their grandama's address and credit card.

Look I hate to keep bitching, but here's the deal:

1) Zotac gives rebates for both cards if they are SLi capable and bought on the same invoice,

2) Galaxy gives up to two rebates,

3) PNY gives up to three rebates.

The rest, EVGA,Palait, MSI, Gigabyte, and even EliteGroup............one measly rebate per product per promotion...............

I mean Come on.....you guys not heard of SLi or Crossfire? cheap man, just cheap.

That's an interesting topic. I for one, never really buy cards in 2s. Not much of SLI/crossfire type of person, no i never have had this issue... But now i can look out for it.

This IS, BS though, they should honor ALL rebates.. if they are going to sell it at that price AND offer a rebate to the world. then they should honor how EVER many you buy, there should be no limit...

Isn't it obvious?

Their goal is to make money. They use rebates to help sales but hope that a large percentage of people will not use them/forget/do it wrong. Offering the option to use it on two videocards would net them less money. Yes, other companies do it. So what. Their business strategy is not to.

Pretty simple business logic. Did you really not understand this?

Dont be a jerk.
Of course I understand the simple premise of the rebate.

I just dont believe the rebate should be limited. What difference is it if 5 people buy one or if 1 person buys 5, if you offer a rebate, it should apply to all sales.

This limit takes your argument even further. Hoping for multiple sales and showing in the fine print that your rebate is only honored for one product purchase.

It just strikes me as completely dishonest and misleading.

Usually when there is a rebate, with one OEM there is another one offering the same thing, eg ASUS and MSI. So just buy one of each, and problem solved.

That's very good.

BUT as we all know some are better vendors than others, price can vary wildly, as are RMA ease, etc. In my case I was after the specific reference card for price, unlocking and overclocking.

But again, that is a very good suggestion.

It still does not address the main issue of offering a rebate on all products sold.

No, 5 people purchasing and mailing in rebates is a much lower payout probability.
How many of those 5 people won't follow the instructions? How many are lazy and won't get it postmarked in time?

1 person ordering 5 with rebates screams "I'm a rebate fanatic and send every rebate in".

So, the rebate fulfillment company will get to keep more of the funds. Yes, I agree though, it should be at least 2 rebates per person for video cards.

I got very lucky, I bought 2 MSI cards and but the wrong 3 digit credit card code on the back of the card (typo) and the order self cancelled on newegg. Once that happened I checked and noticed 1 rebate per household and got 1 msi and 1 his. The invoice was reprinted and I got a rebate for each card. I laugh when that stuff happens because I know they are looking at my invoice thinking they should have offered more than 1 rebate otherwise both cards would have been theirs. I guess they don't like to make money or sell cards. I would have bought both msi but their own policy screwed them off of a sale.

Anyhow in the future, if I find myself buying 2 or 3 cards I'll always do it this way unless of course the manufacturer in question allows multiple rebates.

Yes, you are quite correct.
I learned the hard way here.
I was trying to be brand loyal, but got screwed for it, big time.

A reference card is a reference card, I know better. I should have purchased one each from three different vendors..........it was my own fault, but I ordered the first two together in a hurry and only read the rebate facts after the deal was done. I couldn't believe the fine print at first..............I'm out around $50 which ain't a small sum and could have been put to some other good use.

It just pisses me off, that's all.

This is common practice for a multitude of commodities, it is not something found only with GPU businesses. If a company does anything more than 1 rebate, I am pleasantly surprised. Otherwise, get over it :p

If you had the money to buy 3 new 6950's, $50 isn't going to kill you. Get over it.

Sounds to me like still don't understand the why they offer rebates in the manner they do AND that you are sour that you didn't read the terms of the rebate. How is it dishonest if they tell you the conditions upfront?

Next time, read all the conditions first.

Skip the lectures.
I fully understand the business model.
Yup. Read the fine print....blahblahblah.Get over it,etc.

Still doesn't make it right. A rebate should honor each purchase. Period.

What I think everyone should be asking is why do rebates even exist? Almost always they are outsourced to some rebate company. Meaning the manufacturer already gave them the money for the rebates so the rebate company can hand it out to qualified rebates. So if they are already out the money why not just drop the price on the card temporarily instead of doing dumb rebates. It makes no sense at all, it makes them look bad when the rebates aren't filled even when they are valid and they are still out the money.

I agree, but we are not going to see that, unfortunately.

I use the rebates as bonuses, I never expect them, and I'm pretty brand loyal. I will pay 10 or 20 dollars more for MSI versus Zotac or Galaxy or Diamond, etc....mostly based on good experiences, regardless of rebates.

I have never been denied a rebate or not eventually received one.

It's just the dumb limitation that gets me aggrevated...........but I guess I'm really in a short line.:D

Rebates are a form of price discrimination that allows companies to make sales to individuals who would not otherwise buy at the normal price. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_discrimination

The enemy of price discrimination is arbitrage, which means buying cheap and selling high. In this case that means buying a bunch of gpus cheap on rebate and then flipping them at higher prices on craigslist, ebay, hardforum, etc. Arbitrage is the main reason for limiting rebate quantities per address for all types of rebates.

Also, the gpu companies probably think that a buyer of multiple gpus is a guy who can afford to (and will) buy just as many gpus at the normal price vs rebated price.

Do you buy multiple gpus even when you don't get rebates for all of them? If the answer is "yes" then you can see that the companies have made the right choice to maximize their profit. Rebates are just another profit maximizing tool. They're not a customer reward, present, etc.
